I struggled to finish

I love a good horror story even cheesey ones, but this was just all around boring to me. there was no sense of building tention and there were chapters of "historical" happenings that aren't interesting either. it was like the author suddenly decided to shoehorn in an explanation.

Long Winded

I lost track of the times I said, "I get the idea, move on already!" I was also dissatisfied with the long winded ending, it was too over the top. The author leaves nothing to the imagination. Might make an okay movie as the longer winded areas could be summed up in one image or 2 second clip.

It was Okay

I couldn't get into it. And something about the performance was very YA fiction sounding to me and that's just not wjat I was looking for out of this novel. The story wasn't terribly gripping and I didn't care about any of the characters.

Just a Sequence of events

There wasn't really an overarching plot to tie events together and events didn't seem to provide any character development. I think this was just created to fill in random details of the existing story. I really had to put effort into finishing it and not just returning it.

Not particularly attention holding

It started out okay, but didn't really get more interesting in my opinion. I consider it just a relaying of events in a particular order. I didn't have any reason to care about the characters (besides from other books etc) which made an exchange of sentiment between Oni Wan and Anikin sound super out of place and cheesey. Also the way the "big ending* action sequences were written didn't provoke a fully formed sceene for me. I kept rewinding to figure out what was happening. I guess it does make the opening of Revenge of the Sith make sense, bit it seemed more like required reading than interesting to me.

Pretty Standard Fair

Kind of standard horror fair, probably because it was an influence on more modern horror. Honestly most of my interest in this was seeing how they adapted it into the Netflix series. Which they did take sooo many bits. Similarly, I had to go back and watch the 90's movie The Haunting for the same reason. But this book is entertaining for what it is. Also Shirley Jackson is the author of the short story The Lottery which I studied in at least 2 different english classes. It was an "oh that makes sense" moment when I found that out.

Wasn't Disappointed

It was paced rather well. Just when you started getting bored with all the talking and mundane happenings it switched back to the supernatural happenings. Did get kinda gorey.

Good Creepy Factor

It was entertaining. Good mystery. Not deep or thought provoking, but that's what I liked about it.

Possibly spoilers:
I was kinda disappointed by the ghost when I got to the end. Also, it sort of implies that every single man in Victorian England was a rapist.

Wish I hadn't bothered.

I waited so long for some kind of large supernatural event or culmination and explanation of events, but it really just kinda petered out. While they do tell you the kind of who, there is no explanation of the supernatural events. More than half the book is set when the narrator is 7, then jumps without warning to her teens. After that it jumps again to middle age. There is very little in the way of explanation and by the end I even hated the narrator.

I was hooked

There didn't seem to ba a whole lot of downtime in the book. It is a little slow in the beginning when you're trying to figure out where this morality study is going. This was written in such away that I actually started to get stressed out by the situation from the book. Usually I put on an audiobook to fall asleep to with the sleep timer. With this book I was so interested I didn't fall asleep until long after the time was up.
