Historia
With bright red hair and an infectious smile, Dodie is a hopeless romantic and absolutely one of a kind, just like the pieces in her shop. When Dodie finds a love letter in the pocket of an old woollen coat, she makes it her mission to deliver it to its rightful owner. Following the address, she manages to persuade the handsome but reluctant new tenant, Edward, to help her with her search.

Repetitive, kind of depressing
Revisado: 03-06-25
The narrator has a nice soothing voice and did a fine American accent. The Yorkshire accent seemed… Australian?
The story lacked substance and presumably this is why a few conversations were repeated over and over. There wasn’t much uplifting funny or joyful in this. I found other books by this author to be better in substance.

Historia
One little white lie—that's all it took. Now I'm suddenly having to fake-date my work nemesis to get through a week at a Vermont Christmas lodge with my family. The problem? I can't stand Miles Taylor. Not only that, but I don't date people I work with. But I can handle it. I've had practice faking my emotions for years. So it shouldn't matter that Miles never lets me get away with anything. And that he happens to boil my blood hotter than a steaming pot of wassail. So when he throws his annoying grin my way or forces me on dates he knows I'll hate, I'll just grit my teeth and smile.

Cute story but repeatedly brings up death in some detail
Revisado: 01-14-25
A lot of the reviews and descriptions described this as an uplifting story but only a few mentioned that it repeatedly discusses death and the emotions of coping with it. I didn’t feel the rest of the book was deep enough to warrant the detail the death references included. This was much more of a downer for anyone who can relate, rather than uplifting. I think listeners should be warned in case that’s something they’d rather not listen to for entertainment- hence this review.
Aside from the death related parts I thought the story was cute and well executed by the narrator. I couldn’t always tell voices apart but the story explained them. Overall a cozy story and if you skip over the unnecessary detail on death you might feel uplifted.
The only other thing that irked me was the ridiculous hypocrisy of acting like the protagonist is a rule follower while using work email at a school and school spaces inappropriately. You have to suspend your reasoning on those issues, but they’re easy to overlook given the timing in the book.
I’d listen to more from this author and this narrator, I’d just peruse reviews better beforehand to properly set my expectations.

Interesting concept but childish narrator and writing needs refinement to target audience
Revisado: 01-14-25
I’m sorry to disparage the narrator for something she can’t control, but her voice is terrible. It might work for a different type of book, but as it’s nasally and childish it just enhanced awkwardly childish parts of this book, and made the juxtaposed attempts at adult situations more cringeworthy.
The idea was great, the execution was not. The plot was refreshingly different than a lot of the Christmas books but I think the author could have up-leveled the writing for an adult audience. A lot of it felt like the target audience was a tween and missed the mark on any account. While I appreciated the fact that the storyline jumped right into the thick of the plot, there was a ton of repetition and constant explaining of things the listener deduced 3 statements ago. I would listen to a rewrite of this book with the immature and repetitive edges smoothed out and definitely with another narrator.

The description made this seem a bit vapid so I hesitated to listen. I’m sorry I waited! Funny, relatable, uplifting story. I’m glad there’s a second in the series and hope there’ll be more.

Judge the book by its cover: neither a rom nor a com
Revisado: 12-12-24
Pro: consistent, free, narration is ok (ironically just ok, not great)
Cons: clunky attempts at romance, no humor whatsoever, boring, juvenile (no natural progression or chemistry in the relationships, annoying characters), simple minded, repetitive, painfully predictable despite the entirely unnecessary and constant attempts to “hint” there’s a surprise coming after reiterating the previously plainly stated, basic plot. The foot fetish piece was off-putting at best.
If this weren’t so consistent I’d have guessed it was authored by AI circa late 2022.

Pass- Male narrator ruins it
Revisado: 09-22-24
The narrator is ok for the male non Texan accent but his attempts at the female Texan accent sounds like he is performing amateur ventriloquism while constipated. I found myself just trying to make it through to the parts Joy Nash read. Too bad she didn’t read the whole book.
The story wasn’t as funny or uplifting as most of this author’s.

The thing Robin is most excited about is the chance to show her work crush, James, what she's really like outside of work, and divert his attention from Liz, her work rival. The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn't hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava's ever had. And that's all it was - until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.

Invokes a lot of eye rolls- ok for background noise
Revisado: 05-06-24
The narrator was pretty good and the storyline was ok for a free or highly discounted mindless listen. Moral of the story is: if you’re very attractive and born into money, things will work out for you even though others try to use you for your looks and money. Didn’t like the way abortion was positioned- very closed minded approach.

In this groundbreaking new work, Mark Booth embarks on an enthralling intellectual tour of our world's secret histories. Starting from a dangerous premise - that everything we've been taught about our world's past is corrupted, and that the stories put forward by the various cults and mystery schools throughout history are true - Booth produces nothing short of an alternate history of the past 3,000 years.

Author seems to really hate Americans
Revisado: 02-09-24
The author portrays all the American characters as low class, shallow, unkind, and (mysteriously) skinny people who only serve very fattening, low quality food. I encourage the author to learn more about Americans, as this comes off as awfully spiteful, petty, and ignorant. It’s extreme and dehumanizing in a manner that detracts from the storyline rather than adds to it.
Unfortunately, the narrator’s attempts at American accents only serve to exacerbate the author’s obvious ignorance. The characters either sound like exaggerated reality show “stars” with speech impediments, or just Elmer Fudd (speech impediments and all).
If the American bashing through content and sound can be ignored, the story comes across a bit cosy, but also dreary with a lot of whining and a distinct lack of gumption. This was part of the plus catalog when I listened, but I wouldn’t pay for it.
On the positive side, I was interested in some of the Christmas recipes.
The first book was more uplifting, and the author’s book about the chocolate shop in Paris was much funnier. Although the latter was heavy on French stereotypes, the characters were presented as multifaceted humans, where even the villain was redeemed.
