I had to switch to reading instead of listening. At first I thought the heroine was annoying but then I realized, it was the partly because of the way the male narrator read the part.

You definitely want to listen to the whole series. I do with things we’re developed a bit more but that’s clearly done through the series.

Good for free a mindless listen

The first chapters of the first book are cringy and I almost stopped. It was like she tried to make the hero macho and it came off as gross. Thankfully the story turned around and he’s not like that for the rest of the book. The 2nd and 3rd books are the best. The actors did a pretty good job all the way through. I actually found these books because I liked Erin Mallon’s reading of the Louise Bay novel.

By the end, I did have some trouble telling characters apart. I took a break after the third book. I did want to find out what happened to the main characters. That’s why I ultimately finished.

There was definitely a lot of cutting and pasting to explain backstory rather than work it in seamlessly. You got the same spiel many times.

It feels like they forgot to edit. I think the mix up with Venezuela and Brazil in book 3 was actually because they meant to say that they had gone from Venezuela to São Paulo and the grammar was incorrect or because the changed the destination from older drafts and didn’t catch all of the changes. Either scenario is highly probable. There are times where a character goes from being a niece to a cousin a few times and they clearly changed the name of the sister in book 3 at some point (I was very confused when reading the heroes’ sister’s novella due to the name change). The timelines across the novels, whether it be for the sports seasons or the love stories, were all kinds of wonky. They didn’t bother to fact check or go back and make sure everything lined up.

Having read the reviews before I started the free download, I was able to ignore all that (mostly) to enjoy it as a mindless read/listen. While the characters aren’t developed as much as one would like, you do still want to root for them. With low expectations I enjoyed them for what they were: quick, formulaic romance novels with steamy bedroom scenes.

I get jumping to the wrong conclusions to provide the needed storyline drama but this story was just too much. Every time, the supposedly strong and independent woman jumped to the absolutely wrong conclusion for no reason. It was definitely teen angst when the characters are supposed to be older. I could not finish and that’s saying a lot. There is a lot of over looked sexual harassment/violence that was never resolved at least as far as I listened. The author just kept adding on without resolving. It was too much there are plenty of better free titles to listen to in the romance genre.

Very good fun read

I think I was hoping for a bit more intrigue with espionage part of the plot. It was just suddenly wrapped up. I understand it’s not the point of the novel but that jump threw me and kept me from giving it 5 stars. I really enjoy the male narrator’s voice except when he voices her part during the sex scenes. Another reviewer called it out and it does make me roll my eyes. There is a domestic violence trigger warning in her backstory. Overall, it’s a great listen that I recommend.

Brutal southern accent

I love the author and wanted to continue with her connected series. However, this one was hard. It was a combination of both the way the southern character was written and performed (by both the male and female actors). It was just too much. I really liked the hero falling instantly in love as I don’t feel like I’ve come across that as much. It might be better to read this one than listen.

Heroine a bit annoying but good listen

I listened to the second book in the series first and really liked it. That probably lead me to listen to the whole book here when I didn’t love the heroine.

She jumped to angry so fast, it made it hard to like her. Her best friend kept calling out how illogical her reactions were. I got that the hero had a strong attraction to her but I was confused when the first sex scene started. I had to rewind to make sure I hadn’t missed something. The jump just didn’t make sense. That also made the power dynamic of his being her boss seem a little creepier. That could definitely trigger some listeners.

I kept listening because I had liked book 2 and was curious about tangential characters. You don’t have to read related books as they stand alone. I’ll give book 3 a try but you can probably skip this one.

Good story, steamy scenes

I really enjoyed the characters. The hero’s insecurities went a bit long (tripped him up one too many times) but I still really enjoyed the story.

Predictable but nice

The story was very predictable. The villain was overtly obvious from the beginning and the other issues were not enough reason the keep the love interests apart for so long. I thought the narrator did a good job though.
