Honestly, I think they would be better off finding a random third grader to review and fact check, or at least make up something more relevant. They could even add a "citation needed" tag to the podcast's icon, to make it that tiny bit truthful.
If you are already down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories this fanfic is based in, I suppose you might like it. If logic and reality are your friend, steer clear.

What if you could make a change to history that would eliminate the Spanish Inquisition, American slavery, World War II, global warming, and an egomaniacal US president who thought he was smart enough to drop nuclear bombs here and there without negative consequences? What if that change also made the United States and five billion people poof from existence? Would you do it?

Quirky sci-fi with a queer twist!
Revisado: 06-26-20
First off, seeing as it is an audiobook, the reader is well paced, and fluent. I listened for hours, and enjoyed every minute of it. Backups were only needed when I was distracted from the story by work matters, and everything was easy to keep up on from there.
In terms of the story, its not often I can find good LGBT+/GSRM friendly science fiction like this, with humans as the sexual minority, rather than the aliens alone. If you are a Trump supporter, steer clear. If you are a queer agnostic atheist, with a love of quirky sci-fi, you may have just found the next book on your list. I was pleasantly surprised by the books portrayal of a number of things, the best of which was a good look into the dynamics of consent, and the issues involved with pressuring a partner in an emotionally fragile state. Not enough fiction really can delve into this with tact and subtlety, working it in rather than forcing it with a crowbar.
In the end, I think this is an author the big publishers should be watching out for. So much the better if they are going to keep up with their antics. With any luck, he can erase them from the history books.
I requested a free review copy of this audiobook, with expectation of my honest review. Thank you for allowing me to listen to and review the book, I think I have found something I am going to get a lot of enjoyment recommending, as well as listening to again.

A wonderful furry para-anthropological romp!
Revisado: 05-28-20
First off, the reader, this is an audiobook version, after all. Caren Naess kept the reading well paced, no need to speed up or slow down to gather everything in. The pronunciation and character voices kept on point, and gave you a chance to get into the story, not the reader. A wonderful job, I did not even need to rewind to re-listen.
On starting this book, I feared that the Noble Savage trope was going to be at play. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the novel gave a more complex view to a race seemingly alien to our own, while providing a story that is worth a few reads through. Reminiscent of Ursula K. Le Guin's beautiful "The Left Hand of Darkness," tinged with the sort of darkness inherent in the history that influenced "The Handmaid's Tale," we have a story that follows para-anthropological themes, as we explore the many aspects of a new society, and see how much it varies from, or even resembles, our own. This is also a wonderful addition to the furry fandom, and those who enjoy such anthropomorphic characterizations will likely enjoy this novel.

First, the narrator. J. D. Kelly has an easy voice to get into, and I had no trouble keeping this book playing a 100% strait. There were no pronunciation issues that I noted in the books, all was as it should be, and a couple of beautifully crafted stories to boot.
The stories are the same as you might have loved reading in your own childhood. Now, you can share them with your own family, in all of their glory and love of the animal, read in a well tailored voice. Man's best friend becoming something more primal, something deeper than just a follower of man.

A Wonderful Delve Childhood Stories.
Revisado: 04-10-20
As an audiobook, we should get to the important part, first off, the voice that is going to be reading this story to you. This particular voice belongs to Alison Larkin, and my first thought was "motherly." This reading really feels like the stories are being read by a mother or grandmother, and have that loving flair you might always hope to deliver to your own children as you read.
As for the stories themselves, these are the real thing. These are not your Disney remakes or "reimaginings," but the real dark and gritty stories that had some moral truth to them, with some happy thoughts thrown in for good measure. People die, gruesomeness abounds, and sometimes, get this, bad and reckless people get their comeuppance. These stories are not sanitary. Sometimes that is what we need in a good story. Now you can show your kids the real stories that turned in to those silly cartoons. Undoubtedly, you get more from this collection than you get with most audio-book purchases, and if you are stuck at home, or on a long trip, you will have a lot to keep you occupied.

The Empty Nation series is sci-fi, romance, political satire, and comedy. The story begins 200 years in the future. In this first volume the framework for the entire series is defined with a wildly concocted futuristic plan by the new United States government to control the economic fate of the world (nothing new).

A irreverent and highly disturbing parody
Revisado: 03-02-20
First off, this being an audiobook, it should be said, the narrator did a wonderful job. My only compliant was a couple of repeats, and, at one point, a dog barking in the background.
As the story goes, this is a disturbing parody, detailing the extremity of what life can become given our current political path. In the vein of "Gulliver's Travels," and "The Handmaid's Tale," we get a chance to see the author's take on what can happen if our societal ills are taken to their logical, and even highly illogical, end. Certainly not an outcome any rational person would want, but group-think has a way of causing mobs to accomplish the unthinkable.
In terms of audience, this is not a story for the young, so keep the kids far, far away, and keep an open mind, just don't let your brain fall out!

Change: The Numismatic Odyssey of a Quarter follows a 1963d Quarter for 100 years. If you've ever held an old coin and wondered about its journey, Change offers the story of one of these roads, telling the brutal vaudeville that was late 20th century America. Through large stories and small moments, high comedy and quiet loss, Change reflects not only the chaos of history but the connectedness of small things, and yes, even the nature of evolution itself.

A varied numismatic escapade
Revisado: 02-12-20
In terms of the reading, as this review is for the audiobook, this was well read, with some minor passing repeated sentences in the reading. It was a bit of an adjustment to the voice, but I was quickly taken in.
As to the text, don't let the cover fool you, this is a rather varied collection of stories, otherwise disparate, but linked by the presence of one single two bit coin, a 1963 Denver minted Quarter. An interesting view into historical fiction, tracing mostly throughout events of the mid to late 20th century, with a cast of characters the likes that any storyteller would be proud of. Do be aware that some of the stories are rather racy in nature, and may not be great for small ears, but most of it was handled in a polite manner.

FOTUS is a political satire that takes place in a futuristic America in which Alexander Rett, a self-aware talking embryo, defies medical science, runs to become president from within the womb, wins, and during his first few amazing months as leader of the Free World, coins himself the Fetus of the United States (FOTUS). The fetus embraces the role with an unorthodox sense of humor; he participates in presidential debates, helps pass important national bills, oversees domestic and international affairs, and even runs his own Twitter account.

A bit slow to start, easy to hate, but keep going.
Revisado: 01-10-20
First off, this being an audiobook, in my case, I should note that the reading was wonderful. The differing dialect between the same words in the space of a couple of sentences was flawless, if a bit disconcerting to process, but that is the nature of the book, and the subject matter, not the reader. Still, if you cannot deal with that, be warned.
As for the subject matter, the main character is one that is easy to dislike. Even more, those that surround him. There is subtle progression, some might even say rebirth, throughout the novel, but you might have to take some time away to reflect on what you have heard, and calm down a bit. In the end, it was worth it to get through the tough parts, and see the humanity in the story. To say that it was worth it, alone, does not do the book justice. The wordplay involved is, though from a different perspective that one might normally see, insane in it's over-the-top nature. This book, unfortunately, gives Poe's law a run for it's money, and all bets are off till you get to the end.

Quite a book.
Revisado: 01-02-20
First off, the pleasantries. This being an audiobook, the narrator read at a good speed, no need to shift the dial to either side of the line. The pronunciation of some things was a bit off from what I am used to, though that may very well be an issue with the South African locale, rather than a need for a pronunciation guide.
In terms of the source text, Johannesburg was a nice change from the average big city locales, even if just in minor details, opposing such magical places as London, LA, or New York. The characters were well described, and well thought out, and I found myself finishing the book wanting more. If you want everyone to live, though, this is not the book for you. The subtle inclusion of terms and in-jokes from other magical universes was a nice touch, and it definitely makes for some magical and memorable reading.

Revisado: 01-02-20
First off, this being an audiobook, it should be noted, the narration was great. I did not note any throws or misspeaks, and it was well sped to my ear.
In terms of the story, frankly, there did not seem to be a connected story. I understand that this is more a series of essays, and as that it flows well enough each in itself, but there is no narrative style throughout. If you want to relive, though Paul's memories, the joy of getting that first bike, enjoying the ride, and the race, this is a book for you. If you are more into the mountain, or even more into the casual ride, groceries and home, I dare say this is less the book for you.
