This doesn't quite fit those who suffer with never-ending Family Scapegoating Abuse and Autism. Not only are we navigating childhood complex ptsd, life and people are continuing to add to the trauma in the present. How can we ever heal when we are unable to escape the reality that practically everyone we have and will ever interact with, including therapists, will never stop hurting us with their ignorance and unwillingness to understand. When we always rub everyone the wrong way and are repeatedly treated poorly because of their issues and are ultimately rejected every time or must walk away to protect ourselves, how do we find safety and peace in a world, that for us, offers no safety or peace? How do we find joy in protective isolation, when all we have ever longed for is connection?

I needed this book to calm my mind and soothe my soul. Perhaps the physical healing can now follow.

I identify so much with the title and narrative. With what I've been through with my mother, I feel I will never get close to healing until she croaks. Sadly, I will likely die before she does. She's 82 will stable health. I am 61 with deteriorating health. "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk says it all.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

"Who are you worshiping and why?"

This book validates a concept I've been rolling around in my mind: Heal from narcissistic abuse by embracing your own inner narcissist.

This is actually what some of us instinctually attempt to do when we begin exhibiting narcissistic traits at the point where we can no longer tolerate the abuse. It is then we begin to question whether we are, in fact, the narcissistic one.

Sadly, no one taught us how to recover in a healthy way. So, we begin expressing the more negative traits of narcissism we learned in the relationship from someone who was unhealthy.

There is actually healthy narcissism that never has to decend into pathological narcissism. This book explains it well in easy-to-understand language.

This should be taught to autistic people who have a hard time understanding human interaction and communication.

While the narration could have been more animated, I guess the monotone is actually appropriate for those of us who have been told we have robotic sounding voices.

That aside, this book was EXACTLY what I needed to hear at this VERY moment. I am 59 years old and have been struggling all of my life being told by family, friends, and mental health professionals that there is inherently something fundamentally wrong with me. I have been misdiagnosed repeatedly, prescribed what seems like EVERY psychotropic under the sun--new, old, and experimental, and even talked into 12 ECT treatments. None of these helped. All of them harmed. I've been through talk therapy, CBT, DBT, and EMDR with marginal positive results. FINALLY, this book is suggesting that I'm just different rather than damaged at the core of my being. All I've ever wanted was to be accepted and given the appropriate tools to be the best person I can be. This book is the confirmation of that being all I ever needed.

Very interesting. A lot to piece together. I feel like I was left hanging to decide for myself what really happened.
