What a fantastic book. It's perhaps one of my favorite slice of life style stories I've ever had the pleasure to hear.
The characters are colorful and likeable, the story is compelling without getting dark or violent and the authors descriptions of coffee and food had me salivating.

On top of that, what a rare pleasure to have the author read the book to you themselves and further more give a unique voice to each and every character.

A great insight into the man behind the Nerd

I've watched James Rolfe for over 2 decades. I've seen all the media he's made available and all the discussions on movies, tv and games.
I was unaware that he and I had similar difficulties as young people but I'm glad James seems to have had a couple of amazing parents to help him along the way in addition to dozens of people who see. to have been drawn in by his natural charisma.

It's no wonder James takes so much time to mention and thank so many people as I'm sure that having such a wonderful support network is the reason he's the man he is today and I think it implies a good lession about how no matter how bad things are, if we have good people around us we can still excel and prosper.

I'm glad the author decided to share so much of himself with us as it's not often we get to know people who make our entertainment so intimately. I feel like I appreciate his works even more now and I am excited to see what he produces next.

I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about the creative process, what it's like to grow up not quite fitting in or if you like enjoy watching "the fucken nerd".

this story actually carries weight beyond it's absurd premise.
too many times I've seen people give up what makes them happy to try and appease someone they are in a relationship with. in fact, I have been guilty of this very thing and I can tell you that once I was free, I too realized how truly unhappy I was with the relationship.
one might almost see the culmination of the story as someone reconnecting with what makes them truly happy while discovering new and exciting things about themselves let buried as they became too comfortable in an established relationship.

maybe I'm over thinking this or maybe Tingle is more or a genius then he lets on, either way, big recommend.

Chuck Tingle is an infamous author and generally seems like an upstanding guy but this is the first time I've listened to any of his books and boy howdy what a ...ride
as a women into women who's chosen name is Willa, I have...feelings about this, mostly confusing and horny ones.

The Star Trek I used to know.

It's been too long since I've felt the inspiration and wonder a quality story set in the Star Trek universe can feel like.

It was a joy to hear the story of Janeway and her life before we even really know her on Voyager and further more, hing some extra flavor added to her time spent there as well.

what a delight to have a story steeped in positivity and human spirit presented in this way by the talented Ms.Mulgrew. Her tone and inflections brought to life evey character and even, painting vivid pictures in my mind.

For an older fan like me, this is a treat and reminds me what Trek used to be...and perhaps gives me hope it may yet be again.

I went into this expecting nothing other then to occasionally be entertained, I did not expect to have presented to me, so many insightful and deeply personal moments from one Mr.Black.

although I feel like the book lost some direction in the later 1/4 (as can happen when a joke goes on a while) I'm still very glad to have listened to it in Lewis's own voice. Honestly, it did leave me with a few deeper meanings to weight, the insights of which in sure will reveal themselves in time.

it was also quite and unexpected treat to hear the voice of Mark Linn-Baker in the last act of the performance. Mr.Linn-Baker was a great source of entertainment on perfect strangers along side Bronson Pinchot. in fact I think it's perhaps perfect that I be reminded of perfect strangers, for as a child with a very turbulent upbringing the show often brought me comfort and joy. The power of comedy knows no age after all.

Lewis has made me realize I need to work harder to laugh again. even in these awful times.

For once, I'm bored with sex

I'm not sure why this is called "my romantic love wars" as the author goes out of their way to express their dislike of romance time and again. Perhaps they mean a love of the self?

Now I'm pretty sexually, liberally minded but I felt kind of disappointed that the focus was often on the sex.and not on the politics of the time. Often I found my self left wanting of Dodson's opinions of the political climate at the time of writing and sort of bored with the 10th or 20th description of a group sex event.

Especially, I would have liked to know the authors feelings on modern militant aspects of shaming and "stay in your lane" thought in feminism today.

I'm a sexually open minded transgender lesbian Sappho sexual my self and I often find my self butting heads with people, so hearing older feminists sound off makes me feel invigorated far more then any sexual exploits.

Still, I did feel some sense of awareness brought to my self shame over some intimate aspects of my own sexual activity, so I suppose the authors objectives were successful?

Still it was hard for me personally to find much of the sex stimulating with it's disconnect from emotion or personality and often seemingly merely done for sensation.

I've been a fan of Elvira since I was young. I've been watching her all these years and little did I know, that while I was enjoying wanting her and wanting to be her, she was struggling and worrying about where her next next meal might be coming from.

More scary is finding out how many times the razors edge swung hard at her neck year after year.
In the text, Elvira herself says she feels some conflict over wanting to be an object of desire while having unwanted advances and even sexual assaults forced on her many times. This isn't a unique experience for America women mind you, chances are at least one(probably more ) of the women in your life have been harmed in this way, I digress.

I only really felt let down by one moment in the book where Cassandra outright dismissed the idea that men are never the victims of sexual abuse. I am trans, MTF but when I was young I was most definitely threatened with sexual assault and I knew men who were taken advantage of though the application of drugs and alcohol. Men are taught that "surprise sex" is a sign of their "great masculinity' and they shouldn't question it. Underreporting is a very key factor in abuse of all types for all people and I felt rather sad to hear such a dismissive attitude from someone I hold in such high reguard.

Even so I was overall glad I could hear her story and know the women behind the horror.

Brent Spiner, a chunk of the cast of TNG and others took me on a crazy ride for a few hours and I mean...I'm not upset about it.

At times this felt like a fever dream and others like a poignant, soulful expression of Mr.Spiner's poetic musings.

I even saw a little of my self in there too, because as a child, data was a hero of mine as well, trying to understand these people he lived and worked with, trying to figure out how to "human."

I'm glad to see Mr.Spiner doing more things and that he has the support of his friends from now till the undiscovered country.

Would highly recommend to anyone who's a fan of TNG, Data or a decent noir radio drama set in the late 80s.

I saw a lot of my younger self in this book. Back then, in the 90s, loving in a highly conservative state in the US, we didn't understand ideas like transgenderism. Even just appearing anything but straight, thin and "normal" would get you targeted by your fellow youth.
I know now that what I felt and what Grayson felt was very normal and typical of transgender youth.
Grayson's struggle feels very familiar and I hope it can help some trans youth to realize they aren't alone in this.
