Historia
Ryan wakes up to find his contractor dad building walls to turn their big old house into a duplex. The family that moves into the other side includes Bizzy Horvat, the pretty girl he has a crush on at school. Bizzy claims her mother is a witch with the power to curse people with clumsiness or, in Bizzy’s case, astonishing beauty. When a bee gets caught in Bizzy’s hair, Ryan acts so quickly and radically to save her from getting stung that he attracts the attention of a group of micropotents - people with micropowers.

Great book with creative ideas

I really find the idea of micro powers really funny. The continuous witty banter makes the story even more fun.

Just hell without any resolution.
Revisado: 03-13-22
He just ran around underground killing random creatures. No real story line. I only kept reading hoping he would find his way home. I felt like I was watching Castaway. He even had a halfway inanimate object as his companion.

Historia
We live in an extraordinary time. Technological advances are happening at a rate faster than our ability to understand them, and in a world that moves faster than we can imagine, we cannot afford to stand still. These advances bring efficiency and abundance - and they are profoundly deflationary. Our economic systems were built for a pre-technology era when labor and capital were inextricably linked - an era that counted on growth and inflation and an era where we made money from inefficiency.

Great ideas.
Revisado: 02-14-22
I think allowing deflation caused by innovation is a great idea, but much deeper discussions need to happen. For example, increasing the amount of money available isn't a bad thing as long as it is done around the world. As the price of production decreases, more things will cost less than a penny and be difficult to quantify a value. Allowing numbers to increase overall while allowing true innovating to occur would also indicate more clearly where there are opportunities.

She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea - and to freedom.

Rarely have I been affected so deeply by a story of an individual's life. So much suffering and in the end her primary take away is to be grateful and explore how she can give back and help others. This book should be required reading for all high school students.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

Terrible book
Revisado: 08-28-20
The author hates capitalism and blames it for all evils of the world while ignoring the government corruption that exists in virtually every country in the world. The left wants free reign to institute government programs to save us all. Sure, they can be trusted...

Awesome, except the cliffhanger
Revisado: 11-23-19
I really enjoyed this series. The cliffhanger made me upset though.
Also, they talked about traveling near and even beyond the Speed of light and didn't once mention the effects of time dilation or how they overcame the other effects of light speed travel. Maybe that makes me a huge nerd, but if your'e going to try to be scientific don't go halfway.

They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Historia
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

interesting story
Revisado: 04-23-19
Interesting story that paints a pessimistic view of people in general. The author appears to think there are no truly good people that are forgiving and kind. There wasn't a single normal, good person of integrity in the book. Does the author not believe that type of person is real? Or just not interesting enough to talk about? I'm just glad that there are actually far more good people in the world than there are bad.
