Historia
The story of the American West is the story of a relentless quest for a precious resource: water. It is a tale of rivers diverted and dammed, of political corruptions and intrigue, of billion-dollar battles over water rights, of ecologic and economic disaster. In Cadillac Desert, Marc Reisner writes of the earliest settlers, lured by the promise of paradise, and of the ruthless tactics employed by Los Angeles politicians and business interests to ensure the city's growth. He documents the bitter rivalry between two government giants to transform the West.

Fantastic introduction to water
Revisado: 08-23-24
This book is stunning. It provide a great overview of the history, allowing the reader to understand how water helped shaped the west, and how those living in the west ended up in a water crisis. I love that is book provided facts, not conjecture, and simply stated, this complex issue. Highly recommended for those who want to understand water and it's effect on culture.

Heartwarming tale of intersecting lives, of things broken ( both literally and figurely), and what broken actually means.

The story provide a good overview of the time and a womans role. The story just ended. I wished there were more details about her research.

Historia
Stoneybridge is a small town on the west coast of Ireland where all the families know one another. When Chicky Starr decides to take an old, decaying mansion set high on the cliffs overlooking the windswept Atlantic Ocean and turn it into a restful place for a holiday by the sea, everyone thinks she is crazy. Helped by Rigger (a bad boy turned good who is handy around the house) and Orla, her niece (a whiz at business), Chicky is finally ready to welcome the first guests to Stone House’s big warm kitchen, log fires, and understated elegant bedrooms.
