Historia
Marcia Brady, eldest daughter on television's The Brady Bunch, had it all. But what viewers didn't know about the always sunny, perfect Marcia was that offscreen, her real-life counterpart, Maureen McCormick was living a very different - and not so wonderful - life. Maureen tells the shocking and inspirational true story of the beloved teen and the woman she became.

Okay read
Revisado: 10-29-19
I really wanted to like this by Maureen McCormick and I did make it through the whole book, despite being tempted to do otherwise. Yeah, a little more about some behind the scenes from the Brady years would have been nice, but that was not really the story she wanted to share. She certainly had some very tough years on every level, many of which were personal choices she made, and I'm very glad she got to the other side alive and well. The narration did get to me at times which made me feel as if I was hearing her read from her teenage diary. But it was her true voice.

Historia
An affair: It can rob a couple of their relationship, their happiness, their very identity. And yet this extremely common human experience is so poorly understood. Adultery has existed since marriage was invented, and so, too, the prohibition against it - in fact it has a tenacity that marriage can only envy. Iconic couples' therapist and best-selling author of Mating in Captivity Esther Perel returns with a groundbreaking and provocative look at infidelity, arguing for a more nuanced and less judgmental conversation about our transgressions.

Amazing insight from start to finish!
Revisado: 11-15-17
Having listened to Esther for the last few years and read most of her materials, she has truly hit it out of the park on this one. And no one could have narrated this other than Esther. The State of Affairs can help anyone who has experienced infidelity understand on some level the why, regardless of your role.

Misbegotten in every sense
Revisado: 11-15-17
Jack Olsen's gift of storytelling combined with Kevin Pierce's narration is a perfect match. Just when I think I've heard it all within the true crime genre, a man like Arthur Shallcross surfaces. His crimes were so horrific that at times it felt blurred in what was real or what was his fantasy. While the killer through his accounts wanted to know why he did what he did and felt as he did, the reader/listener wanted an answer to the why as well. The psyc's report at the conclusion was a possible insight but certainly not conclusive. I was disturbed through the whole story how the two women in his dual life adored him (among other things) unconditionally even after the awful disclosure of his actions. However their voices throughout the story give clear understanding of why.

Historia
After eight years on the air, Desi Arnaz did not love Lucy any more. On screen, they were dynamite, a comedy pairing more successful than any Hollywood had ever produced. But when the cameras stopped rolling, they fought, screamed and threatened each other more each season. Finally, an argument in Desi's production office turned violent. Lucy hurled a cocktail glass past his head, and Desi demanded a divorce. He moved out that night. After nearly 20 years, America's favorite couple was finished.

Interesting behind the scenes of an iconic couple
Revisado: 10-26-17
This audio book seemed to go on and on with a lot of detail about both Lucy and Desi and others in their lives. Overall it was interesting, however a little boring at times. Knowing only about their time on I Love Lucy, this insight to their lives before, during, and after was quite interesting and surprising at times - especially all the philandering!

On any Sunday morning in the Florida Redlands, Dee Casteel might have served you pancakes at the IHOP. She was a hard-working, cheerful waitress, one of the nicest people you'd ever want to know. She was also a three-bottle-a-day alcoholic, hopelessly in love with the IHOP's manager, Allen Bryant. Bryant wanted his live-in lover, IHOP owner Art Venecia, dead. And Dee Casteel helped him to arrange it.

Senseless murders
Revisado: 10-12-17
For some reason I continue to be intrigued and saddened by the dark path that some people choose to make. With each story I read, or listen to, I shake my head throughout and wonder why. Without Mercy is another example of that. The author captured the story and the characters very well, with Kevin Pierce, a true expert at bringing a story to life through his voice. Throughout, I had compassion and contempt for Dee. But while totally responsible for her participation in the orchestration of the senseless murders, I do feel she was influenced to make the choices that she did, for all the wrong reasons. Should she have gotten the death penalty - I don't think so. Life - yes. The other partners in crime - fry 'em.

A very enjoyable book and moments of great fun with Billy Crystal. My husband and I would listen to small nuggets each time we went out in the car and enjoyed it every time. Some laugh out loud moments. Billy provided some very interesting behind the scenes stories of movies and other events in his life. Great narration.

After this book I needed to take a break from true crime. The tragedy that happened to Jacine is beyond what anyone can imagine. My heart ached throughout the narration, especially through the details of the confession. The book was very well chronicled and especially well narrated by Kevin Pierce.

Michelle Stevens has a photo of the exact moment her childhood was stolen from her: She's only eight years old, posing for her mother's boyfriend, Gary Lundquist - an elementary school teacher, neighborhood stalwart, and brutal pedophile. Later that night Gary locks Michelle in a cage, tortures her repeatedly, and uses her to quench his voracious and deviant sexual whims. Little does she know that this will become her new reality for the next six years.

I don't know how I came across this book, but I'm glad I did. Michelle Stevens told her story as no one else could. Listening to Michelle's voice as she pulled back the black curtain to every detail in her life struck every emotion I could possibly have. As a mother, there were times that I felt I couldn't bear to hear the details of her abuse. However, despite not knowing Michelle, I felt I owed it to her to know her story. Michelle endured what no one should ever go through. I am so relieved that through it all Michelle is living a happy and normal life.

Trudy and Billy Lee (bless their hearts)
Revisado: 08-28-17
Any additional comments?
Well I was warned by other reviewers before I purchased this book, but went ahead and did it anyway. The good: A sweet, clean, highly predictable story. The not so good: In this story Trudy and Billy Lee are 40. They talk, act, and behave like they are twice their age, frequently referring to how old (senior) they are. That grated on me and just couldn't understand why the author portrayed them that way. And it's not just because they are from Louisiana and not some big city. And the use of cliches was SO overdone and saturated the narration. The story was so predictable and tidy and completely wrapped up in a beautiful bow at the epilogue.
