23 hours of Enjoyment and Learning!!
Revisado: 06-18-24
This is the longest audiobook I have listened to. After purchasing it, I was concerned I had made a mistake. That I would become bored, and it would have been wasted time and money.
I couldn't have been more wrong!! It was one of the MOST interesting books I've had the privilege of listening to! I learned a lot about Thomas Jefferson, his life, his family, and the time period. And I couldn't help making a comparison between then and now, regarding politics, people's behaviors, and society in general. It seems to me that not much has changed in the ensuing 198 years since Thomas Jefferson died. Things are much the same. Some things have changed...technology, fashion, etc. But human behavior has remained fairly much the same. I find this very disheartening. But it also makes it easier to understand and relate to the story presented in this book.
If you're at all interested in the history of this country and its founders, I think you'll enjoy this book. Very long, but you'll be sad when its done. You'll find yourself wondering how all the family members lives turned out.

Historia
Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Totally enjoyed this story.
Revisado: 05-11-24
A very heart felt story. I'm sure this story played out a million times during the years of slavery. All children are born pure of thought and spirit. They love those that care for and nurture them. Racism is taught. There are those who, despite pressure and coercion to become racist, refuse to accept such behavior. Their natural moral compass is too strong to be swayed. This story is about this subject. I look forward to reading the sequels.

Excellent book!! Very educational!!! Even for a long time dog parent/owner.
Revisado: 04-23-24
I think that anybody who owns a dog, or is considering owning a dog, should read or listen to this book! There is a chapter for each main type of breed, which goes into great detail about the general characteristics and personality of the breed. (scent hounds, boxers, gun dogs, herders, world dogs aka mutts, etc.) And if your dog is a mixed breed, it covers that too. Invaluable information on understanding the behaviors and instincts that make each breed tick.
It was also very funny in places, and I laughed out loud while listening because I could totally relate to the situation or behavior being addressed. I highly recommend this book to all current and future dog owners!! Tip: Any chapters on breeds that didn't relate specifically to my dog, I simply skipped forward. For future dog owners, trying to decide on the best breed for their situation, I recommend listing to the entire book.

In this affectionate and often hilarious inside story of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, her former equerry Major Colin Burgess reveals what life was like living with the most private of all the Royals. Behind Palace Doors is a unique and warmly remembered historic insight into one of our longest-surviving institutions. Constantly fascinating and packed with previously untold stories, this is also a celebration of a life gone - and a way of life fast disappearing.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It was very enlightening to learn more about the Queen Mother from someone who actually knew her. She's portrayed as a fun and down to earth person, despite her royal position. I wish it was a longer book!!

In Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, novelist Jennifer Chiaverini presents a stunning account of the friendship that blossomed between Mary Todd Lincoln and her seamstress, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Keckley, a former slave who gained her professional reputation in Washington, D.C. by outfitting the city’s elite. I love history based books. This book was very enjoyable. Thought not 100% historically correct, it captures the essence of the people involved, and the time period. Very interesting and kept my full attention until the very end.

Made it to chapter 13
Revisado: 10-03-23
I really enjoyed this book when I started listening to It! However, as time and chapters went by, it became increasingly difficult to follow the story, and by the time that I got to chapter 13, I had become incredibly bored with it. I just couldn't listen further. I marked it "finished" and started a different book. Sad, because I was really looking forward to listening to it.

Revisado: 09-07-23
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very pleasantly surprised! If you're an animal lover or just curious about bats, you'll enjoy this book. It's very well written, and the narration is excellent.
I've been interested in bats since I was young and used to watch them in the early evenings. As children, we would throw tiny pebbles into the air to watch the bats chase them. And sadly, we once had a few in our attic that my parents freaked out about and "eliminated" one day while I was in school. While listening to this book, I was almost heartbroken remembering this. They were totally innocent and not disease ridden, dangerous creatures as my family believed. 50 years later, I feel horrible that they were killed for no good reason.
Excellent read. I learned much and had a few good laughs also. Wish there were books like this for all the creatures we share the world with. We would all benefit from understanding more about the animals we share the world with.

Historia
In the autumn of 1707, old enemies from the Scottish Highlands to the Borderlands are finding common ground as they join to protest the new Union with England. An invasion is imminent as many plot to bring the exiled young Jacobite king back to Scotland to reclaim his throne, and in Edinburgh, the streets are filled with discontent and danger. Queen Anne, seeking to calm the situation, has sent money up from London for Scots who took part eight years earlier in the ill-fated Darien expedition that left Scotland all but bankrupt.

A naturalist who spent months at a time living on her own among wild creatures in remote jungles, Sy Montgomery had always felt more comfortable with animals than with people. So she gladly opened her heart to a sick piglet who had been crowded away from nourishing meals by his stronger siblings. Yet Sy had no inkling that this piglet, later named Christopher Hogwood, would not only survive but flourish.
