1/4 story 3/4 endless Dao stuff

Had a hard time getting through this. Mc kept interrupting the standard flow of the story to explain Dao related stuff without end. Often stopping to meditate and wax poetic for seemingly no reason. It felt like you could cut out half the book and there would be no major impact on story.

Main character is a man child.

Half way through the book and the mc still has zero plans and is literally just ignoring the game itself giving him warnings and advice. Warning screwing over people can have bad consequences! Doesn't pay attention in the slightest. Looking at the description of book 2 and apparently he didn't even start looking for his girlfriend yet.

Author treats their characters like trash

Overall the biggest issue is the mc is railroaded into failure at every juncture. He and his friends can't catch a single break the entire book. Nothing mattered it's just one disaster after another. Apparently now we have to wait for book 3 to get to the actual plot of the series. Not happening. The only fix is time travel or rewriting the series, and im not sticking around for that.

Overall an enjoyable listen, but the never ending issues the mc gets stuck dealing with are exhausting seemingly avoidable meaningless and more trouble than they're worth.

A fantastic fantasy

The plot and characters are very well thought out. Great performance by the narrator though some of the occasional accents felt overdone. Love how the magic isn't exactly explained but given enough context where you can follow along.

I can't finish this. Every time there's even slightly a struggle the mc is just too powerful right off the bat and its just over as soon as it gets interesting. I got fed up with the mc getting moony eyed and flirting with a sexy woman every chance the writer got. twice in the first third of the book. The most interesting part about the mc is that she's from Minnesota. Since the introverted gamer librarian personality she's supposed to have got thrown out the window instantly.

Overall a fun adventure though I agree with Ilea fuck politics. Once she set out exploring on her own again it became a lot more enjoyable.

Incohearent weirdness

Overall I like the characters and the world building, but the randomness of switching Pov and flashbacks gets irritating. Plus it's hard to enjoy what's supposed to be a lighthearted read when you get sexually abused women thrown in your face every couple chapters.

Maybe I'm not getting the correct tone of the book but im getting some mixed signals on what the writer is actually trying to do with the story when the tone is this ambiguous.
