Historia
At the beginning of his memoir Life Lived Wild: Adventures at the Edge of the Map, Rick Ridgeway tells us that if you add up all his many expeditions, he’s spent over five years of his life sleeping in tents: “And most of that in small tents pitched in the world’s most remote regions.” It’s not a boast so much as an explanation. Whether at elevation or raising a family back at sea level, those years taught him, he writes, “to distinguish matters of consequence from matters of inconsequence.” He leaves it to his listeners to do the final sort of which is which.

Captivating, interesting, and inspirational!
Revisado: 05-11-22
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing…
Too often when you read adventure biographies the books can either get overly dry with nauseating levels of irrelevant details; or the author inserts exaggerated bull-shit to embellish his/her accomplishments.
Thankfully the tone and approach of the author was one of humility and grace.
This is a fantastic book!

Historia
In May of 1963, Seattle mountaineer Jim Whittaker stepped into world history by becoming the first American to summit Mount Everest. More than 50 years later, he is still regarded as a seminal figure in North American mountaineering, as well as an astute businessman who helped create the outdoor recreation industry. A Life on the Edge: Memoirs of Everest and Beyond is Jim's courageous, no-punches-pulled autobiography and a look at a peripatetic, sometimes difficult life.

Historia
How to Change a Law is a simple do-it-yourself manual for voters and policy advocates who want to take political action and change laws. Using the iLobby platform and our seven-step guide, you will learn how to craft your message, build a coalition, and move your issue forward. You will also learn to vote on issues, not just for candidates. Most of us confuse politics with policy. In this book, we're not talking about getting people elected to office.

Self-Promotion of website not much else
Revisado: 05-12-20
I regret buying and listening to the book.
The following is the only value that you will learn from this book: effective lobbyists need a Message (objective & well analyzed); need a Mass (of aligned constituents); need to show
Money (either through indirect or direct contribution).
I was sorely disappointed with this author and this book. This book it was clearly written with the sole purpose of helping the author promote his website/business. The name of his website/business seems to have been un-naturally inserted dozens of times.
If only, the author could have been a bit more objective and approached the book as a stand-alone educational tool the content and depth of the book could have been much better.
There are large sections of the book where the author goes off onto tangential non-relevant, narcissistic auto-biographical incidents.
Finally the author’s website/ business also is not worth the time or money... it’s good for a copy and past of the layout and general approach and framework to lobbying but nothing more.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

fascinating, captivating, and enthralling
Revisado: 04-10-18
If you could sum up Educated in three words, what would they be?
fascinating, captivating, and enthralling
Any additional comments?
The book is fascinating, captivating, and enthralling. At times you will have a hard time stopping, while other times you will want to stop to ponder, process, and contemplate the complexity of the story.
I genuinely worry about the impact this deeply personal and revelatory book will have on the family…the litany of disclosers practically begs DOL, IRS, EPA, ATF, OSHA, HHS, DCFS investigations. It is almost as if the hidden purpose of the book was to fulfill the prophecies of the author’s father.

Historia
It used to be pretty easy to distinguish between the bourgeois world of capitalism and the bohemian counterculture. The bourgeois worked for corporations, wore gray, and went to church. The bohemians were artists and intellectuals. Bohemians championed the values of the liberated 1960s; the bourgeois were the enterprising yuppies of the 1980s.

Relevant, Fascinating, and Captivating
Revisado: 03-22-18
Previous to reading this book my wife had introduced me to the British television series entitled "Downton Abbey" which triggered a deep interest into the topic of families with inherited wealth, or families with mulit-generation sources of income.
I went on to read several books about the habits, values, and traditions of these families. Trying to decipher what allowed these families to perpetuate their wealth, from one generation to the next...
I found this book to be very insightful into how the so-called values and traditions of the "old guard" are slowly becoming less and less relevant...and how the social norms and boundaries between classes continues to shift.

a huge compilation of success principles
Revisado: 07-14-17
This is an excellent book and shpuld be required reading. The only issues I had with this book was some of the stories were out of date, and a couple of the principles were a little long winded...The narrator could not correctly pronounce "Pinterest". He kept adding a syllable.

This is a unique history of early California before the Gold Rush and the pervasive migration of people. Although, the technical terminology is a bit confusing even for a modern day sailor...I found the story captivating and inspirational.
