An okay story, with an “okay” narrator.

The story was predictable but not terrible. I am from Texas and noticed that the narrator definitely isn’t.
It would have been better if the author had kept it more realistic to the era that the story is set in, rather than today. I mean this primarily in the area of what the main characters wear (always “bloomers” or some type of pants - though this would have been COMPLETELY unacceptable) and the women always MUST do things like men, which also would have been unacceptable during that time. The other part that I disliked was the past and present intimate relationships of the main character. Women during this era did NOT act that way. For all of those reasons and a few more, it was not a believable story. But it did pass the time, so I listened.

Not a true biblical account, but somewhat entertaining.

This author seems to think that the so called “Christians” will physically try to fight like they did in the Old Testament, but as we all know, once Jesus came and died and resurrected everything that had been done in the physical in the OT was now spiritual in the New Testament. Which is why it says “we wrestle NOT against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers and SPIRITUAL wickedness in high places.
Also, if this was a true biblical account, the “Christians” or “Believers “ would have been filled with the Spirit in the same way it happened in the Bible in the book of Acts the second chapter, which is when the church began. Everything that was preached or taught after that was for and to the church.
When the rapture actually takes place it WILL be as it was in the days of Noah, a VERY small number of people will be saved, and once they and the Holy Ghost are gone, it’s
too late for everyone else.
Violence and “prepping” is silly. Jesus rebuked Peter for trying to kill a soldier that came to kill Jesus, He willingly gave His life, and if we are true Christians we will do the same. We also will “take no thought for tomorrow” as the Word says to do.
Just thought I would share a little truth after listening to so much fiction.

The main character.. I’m halfway through the book and can’t remember the male or female character’s names.. I find her annoying, snooty and
acting very out of character for a “lady” living during this time period. The man, who is SUPPOSED to be the head of security for the White House comes across as wimpy, weak and nerdy. Not very likable since the author has done her best to make the “lady” as masculine as possible and the “man” as feminine as possible. Those things are only acceptable in 2020, and only by people who either don’t read, don’t understand or don’t know anything about the Bible. God considers those things an abomination.. he wants women to be ladies and men to be MEN!

Interesting story read by a good narrator. If this was supposed to be written by a Christian author I think they need to actually read the Bible. Toward the end they refer to a scripture in “The Song of Songs”. There is no such book in the Bible. There is a “Song of Solomon“ though. I’m pretty sure this book was written by someone posing as a Christian author.
I am just glad that the book was clean.

So unrealistic! I’m not sure why so many authors feel the need to make women from the past ALL seen as if they want to be (and were) manly, and yet, some handsome man found them attractive! Seriously!!

I have enjoyed all of Jen Turano's books. She does a good job weaving a little mystery with some humor to create a nice story.
The only complaint that I have is with three over-used phrases:

1. "What with" - If I had to count the times the characters said these two words together I would guess it would be in the thousands!
2. "That right there" - It just sounds odd to me. I could understand it if one odd character used this phrase, but it was not limited to just one, many of them used it. :(
3. "Too right you are" - I understand that people did use this phrase, but did they really use it that often?

Also, some of the other phrases and wording are much more current, so they don't ring true in the story.

But overall, I still enjoyed it. The narrator did a good job with most of the voices, though I was confused at times with some of the "Southern" accents, at least I was able to keep track (most of the time) of the characters.

This is a pretty typical love story, but I thought it was going to be by a Christian author, which is what I prefer, only because they normally do not have any foul language. This one wasn’t full of it, but it had some. 😒

I will never understand why most authors feel the need to include profanity. It makes me not want to listen.

I enjoyed most of this book, but the scenes when lives are in peril and yet they must speak a bunch of romantic nonsense kind of ruins it.
Seriously, if someone was just steps away, desiring to take one or both lives, would ANY two people on this planet take their time to express sappy love lines?
Other than this part, it was a good book.

I enjoyed this book, but could have done without the descriptions of the "love" scenes. Other than this, I would highly recommend this book. The narrator did a great job as well.
