Historia
Ollie and Caro Harcourt are moving house with their 12-year-old daughter Jade. Ollie is desperate to leave the city. Caro is less sure. Then they view Cold Hill House, a dilapidated rural mansion, and fall instantly in love. It's expensive, but with its space, seclusion, and huge grounds, it seems like a brilliant idea. That is, until they arrive. It soon becomes apparent that they are not alone. A spectral woman appears on screens and walks the corridors, vanishing before she can be challenged.

Historia
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

I was feeling a little ill because of the live recordings. But I'll tell you this was more information that I ever would have got anywhere else. What a bunch of liars the FBI was here.

The victims recall of the entire situation.
Revisado: 07-15-24
I thought this was pretty riveting. Sometimes frustrating, knowing never to talk to stalkers, to take away the conversation takes away their power. But in this situation took place over years in the early 2000s. It's very relevant today, I don't think police would be so helpful these days. But this book gives great information.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

It's been a while since I've listened to a book I could not turn off.
Revisado: 05-16-24
Personally I think the author is some kind of genius. This story is like taking the back off a watch and seeing how complicated it really is inside. But it works. Listening to the whole mystery, I had two or three different endings in my head that were possible. I immediately liked the main character right away. The stuff that was going on in her brain was disturbing, sort of a very likable split personality character, who thinks some really scary shit. But at the end the author pulls it all together so neatly, Oh yes I was impressed. I can highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries.

Historia
“Sam, could you do me a favor?” Thus begins a story that has now become part of America's true-crime hall of fame. It is a gory, grotesque tale befitting a Stephen King novel. It is also a David and Goliath saga - the story of a young lawyer fresh from the public defender's office whose first client in private practice turns out to be the worst serial killer in our nation's history. This is a gripping true crime narrative that reenacts the gruesome killings and the famous trial that shocked a nation.

It didn't like when the narrator said that pretty much we had conquered things like misogyny and racism clearly we have not.

Historia
Leonard Dyke's writing style didn't offend. But all of his work featured unhappy endings: murders. When four people die, including the author, police finally call on Nero Wolfe. Wolfe baits a trap, and when it springs shut, he finds that truth is stranger (and bloodier) than fiction.

This had a 1980s feel
Revisado: 01-09-22
I just thought it was a pretty tired plot. Like something from 1980s buddy movies where the cops are all friends and then there's a twist and we already know the ending.

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Revisado: 09-26-21
This is a very good if not slightly predictable mystery. Maybe I missed it but when Nora Kelly stabs the guy in the dark how come we never find out on who this wound ends up? Where did Nora get the knife? Pendergast also had a British accent, he's from New Orleans.

On Christmas Eve, DCI Mackenzie Jones is called to a shooting at a remote farmhouse. Ralph Mallender believes his father lies dead inside. When three more bodies are discovered, it's clear a festive family gathering has turned into a gruesome tragedy. At first it seems like an open and shut case: a murder suicide committed by Ralph's volatile brother Cameron.
