Historia
Where the Light Fell is a gripping family narrative set against a turbulent time in post-World War II America, shaped by the collision of Southern fundamentalism with the mounting pressures of the civil rights movement and '60s-era forces of social change. In piecing together his fragmented personal history and his search for redemption, Yancey gives testament to the enduring power of our hunger for truth and the possibility of faith rooted in grace instead of fear.

Wonderful
Revisado: 11-12-22
What an amazing treat to have Philip Yancey read this book.
I have one word to describe his narration … WOW!
Who would have thought he could replicate SO MANY different southern drawls and bounce so seamlessly to his naturally pleasant voice that emanates a true sense of love … well, a true sense of GRACE.
I loved this story.
I loved the combination of words that tell it.
I loved the voices that shared it.
I loved each of the characters in it.
Truth is truly better than fiction when told to you by someone as skilled as a contemporary CS Lewis.
It may be Philip Yancey’s greatest gift and that comes from someone that finished What’s So Amazing About Grace and immediately re entered it’s pages again for a second amazing ride.

Historia
The narrow escape of Eliza, the brutality of Simon Legree, the sweetness of little Eva and the kindness and faith of Uncle Tom are all part of this inspiring novel. This audiobook contributed significantly to the arousal of anti-slavery sentiment before the Civil War and helped to pave the way for civility and equal rights. Please be advised that this audiobook contains racial epithets of the period that may be offensive to some of today's listeners.

Wonderful Treatment of a True Classic
Revisado: 11-03-21
Uncle Tom’s Cabin should be experienced by all Americans!
All Americans regardless of the color of their skin should aspire to be the caliber of human being, depicted in the nature of Tom.
The fact that the term “Uncle Tom” has become a negative reference is terribly unfortunate.
If we Americans were all like “Uncle Tom” we would be living in the greatest of all human societies. And, America would truly be great.
The negative use of the term stems from not actually reading the story or not understanding the power within a man or woman of true character regardless of skin color or circumstances.
This is the GREATEST message from this classic novel.
Tom is my example and hero.
May I always strive to be like “Uncle Tom.”

Historia
We have a glut of text and trade books on American history. But what we don’t have is a compact, inexpensive, and authoritative book that will offer to American citizens a clear, informative, and inspiring narrative account of their own country. Such an account can shape and deepen their sense of the land they inhabit and, by making them understand that land’s roots, and share in its memories, equip them for the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship in American society.

Wonderful Job … Doing the Near Impossible!
Revisado: 10-17-21
While talking about our nation’s history, the founder of the American Village referenced Wilfred McClay’s work. I revere the mission and message of the American Village. It is one of HOPE and respect for our nation’s history.
The founder told me that McClay told our nation’s story with optimism and authenticity. I completely agree.
Land of Hope truly verges on the impossible. Comprehensively telling America’s story in an engaging, thorough and painfully honest manner, is an extraordinary task.
Wilfred McClay achieves the “near impossible task,” by placing the pieces of our history into a vibrant and hopeful mosaic. He accomplishes his stated desire, within the introduction, of creating a work that both the novice and expert in American history can enjoy. His narrative engages the reader from the first stories of the earliest prehistoric explorers of North America to the unprecedented election of the first African American.
The pace is quick. The pieces of our history are positioned and placed as decades pass through the pages. However, McClay stops along the journey to point out salient sections of the mosaic. His journey through our history produces a beautiful rendition of the greatest nation’s trials, successes, failures and in the end, results in an exquisite tapestry of its people.
I thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the narrated journey!
Thank you Mr. McClay.

Historia
The first fictional memoir ever written by an African-American, The Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man influenced a generation of writers during the Harlem Renaissance and served as eloquent inspiration for Zora Neale Hurston, Ralph Ellison, and Richard Wright. In the 1920s and since, it has also given white readers a startling new perspective on their own culture, revealing to many the double standard of racial identity imposed on black Americans. Told by a bi-racial man whose light skin allows him to "pass" for white, the novel describes a pilgrimage through America's color lines....

Historia
Steve O'Dell loves to write, and does it well. But as an eighth-grade student at Needham Middle School, his talent sometimes seems more an embarrassment than a blessing. Then, on Veterans Day 2001, Steve’s award-winning essay propels him into an adventure twisting through Revolutionary battles and bloodshed. Thanks to the bizarre bequest of a manuscript and a musket ball from a long-lost family war hero, Steve’s journey with the Revolutionary War hero Dr. Joseph Warren begins.

Some books are good.
Some books are great.
Some are extraordinarily amazing.
The Land is in the third category.
The story is riveting. The narration could not be better.
What makes it even more powerful, is that the novel is based on true events.
This audio version of a wonderful book is a great window into the past and a hopeful looking glass to see a more fair and equitable future.
A wonderful way to educate both young and old about racism and unwavering determination.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Revisado: 01-03-20
I have read the book twice. I just finished the audio. Both methods are wonderful.
I cannot think of how there could be a better book to help someone that wants to be a better writer. It is an enjoyable and engaging way to learn how to write and an encouraging journey with a writer that wants to infuse all that are interested with his passion.
I recommend it for all that might at some point feel discouraged about their decision to write.

New Mason 50 Year Old Brother
Revisado: 10-16-19
For years, I was interested in Masonry. I was always impressed that so many of the founders of my country and the founders of my chosen religion had been Masons. Their devotion to Masonry caused a great personal interest. As a middle aged man, I became a Mason two years ago.
Without doubt, this book has been the GREATEST source of knowledge and inspiration with respect to the history and purpose of Masonry.
I really enjoyed it. I especially found the thoughts and quotes towards the end of the book priceless.
It is truly a timeless classic.

A wonderful story that transports the listener to another time and place. Towards the end I was so moved by the story that I told my wife, "All high School students should be required to read or listen to this book." We must never forget and always remember the awful things that man can do to man and vow to never allow it to happen while we have the power to help.
The performance by the the reader was outstanding!
