Well written but disappointing.
Revisado: 02-08-25
This story treads the all too common path of cheap power at a low cost. I wont spoil anything here but the feats in this book would barely be within reason for some of the greatest heroes put to paper. This is a very common issue with Isekai but it hits hard with this story because it seemed so grounded at the beginning. I don’t want to hit the author with a bad review because he is talented, but I wont be going any further on this series.

Historia
The eastern front is a place where soldiers never sleep and artillery guns howl without rest. This quagmire is where the Salamander Kampfgruppe has been hurled once again, just another cog in the grand war machine of their fatherland. Still, there's only so much one unit can do. As the fighting ramps up with renewed enemy attacks and a brand-new weapon that pitches the Federation's quantity against the Empire's quality, Tanya faces one of her toughest battles yet, making a certain visitor's arrival a sight for sore eyes.

Erin has a real rough start in the performance.
Revisado: 06-07-24
As the series continues from here Erin’s performance improves massively, but this book is rough, not going to lie.
Muscle through it though, immediate improvements follow, and she eventually nails it.

Historia
Time is not on the Empire’s side. It has become painfully clear that simply winning battles will not be enough to turn the tide of this war. Having no interest in sharing the fate of her country, Tanya immediately decides to do the only thing that makes sense—look for a new job! Of course, she’ll have to proceed with extreme caution, because her current employer isn’t some random company but the Imperial Army. As it happens, she isn’t the only one ready to do something drastic when push comes to shove.

Erin has improved massively since her start on this series.
Revisado: 06-07-24
Overall this is another great book in the series, you already know if you like it.
I just had to mention that if Erin’s first performance turned you off the series, she has improved massively. It’s night and day.
The only issues I still see are likely director related, like giving random British officers Russian accents and vice versa, but even there her performance is so much better than it used to be.

Historia
When an ambitious teenage girl from Earth finds herself in a magical realm, she could be the hero—but she'd prefer to be the villain. When power-hungry Everly is reborn into a medieval world where elemental magic rules and she receives her elemental servants—the oddly sadistic Eris and the fun-loving Titania—years earlier than one typically would, she knows she's destined for a command of necromantic magic the likes of which her peers can only dream.

No real conflict, millennial writing
Revisado: 05-11-24
There really is no conflict or resistance to the MC. She overpowers everything immediately and with 0 effort, (written off with a kind of permanent hyperbolic time chamber). She transcends the entire power scale of the setting in her crib and never faces a single challenge. The rest of the story is just pop culture references interspersed with occasional pointless power demonstrations with no stakes.
Interesting concept executed poorly. Very little effort is diverted to world building and many of the lazy aspects are literally addressed by the MC in weird self aware tangents about lazy writing.
One of the most important portions of an Isekai story is what does the MC bring with them? This is horribly done, as literally every single thing in the modern world is dragged into the fantasy setting by her ability to recreate anything shes ever seen or done physically that she then can inject into other peoples minds with magic. The result is she has thoroughly 21st century conversations with the cast with none of the “stranger in a strange land” aspects that make Isekai interesting.
Performance is OK, not great. Actress has a few verbal ticks that come up a lot in conversations that make many of the deliveries awkward. Hard to judge otherwise because the writing is so awkward a lot of the faults could be on writing and directing.

It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

Is there a word for snarky atheists in a fantasy setting?
Revisado: 07-01-23
It’s impossible not to imagine the author smugly chuckling to himself as his character wins another battle of wits one handed. It’s so pervasive in the narrative it makes it impossible to not think about the author himself living vicariously through his creating like a smug god incarnating into a snarky messiah. Performance was great though.

After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway.

Deets, wrecked, owned, moped out, scritch, flood, etc…
Revisado: 02-09-23
The story is good though a bit naive, but for the love of god, the use of modern internet dialogue is jarring from an elderly man today, hearing them in a fantasy setting takes you right out of the story and into whatever forum the other frequents.

Historia
The Great Crusade is ending. The Emperor has returned to Terra, while Horus remains among the stars to complete the unification of humanity. As the Imperial armies fight the final battles of the age, Remembrancer Solomon Voss seeks the answer to one question—why does Sigismund, First Captain of the Imperial Fists and greatest champion of the Legions, believe that war will not end? Granted a rare audience with the master of the Templars, the answer takes Voss on a revelatory journey to a time before Sigismund became a Space Marine.

Suffers from modern 40k identity politics weirdness.
Revisado: 05-07-22
Behind every great violent space crusader is a legion of inexplicably virtuous and talented women and space marines of color.
Just the increasingly common 40k trend of having any competent human being be a woman of peerless virtue, from the noble orphan who taught Sigismund how to be brave, to the hyper competent commander who’s so stone cold she doesn’t even flinch at the personal command of Dorn despite even space marines reacting in awe.
Other stuff like the author not knowing about space marines having eidetic memory, and the author doesn’t really offer any insight into a reason why Sigismund is the best, he just is because of his “Truth” which somehow even the world eaters ramble about.
As usual with these books, performance is 10/10 writing is wildly varying.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

A great story.
Revisado: 03-05-22
It handles the setting with as much care and attention to detail as we all expect from Andy Weir but with the awkward addition of a few explicit modern political tropes laid on a bit too thick. Overall pretty great but if you’re not into that kind of hamfisted political messaging one 30s skip is usually enough to avoid it.

One hundred and seventy-five years have passed since god quit on mankind. Without his blessing, Hell itself, along with the ancient power of The Deep, were unleashed upon the world. Two world wars and oceans of blood later, a balance was reached. Demonkind took its place as the ruling aristocracy. Mankind, thanks to its ability to create, fell to the position of working proletariat. Alive, but not living. Lucky us. Welcome to New Golgotha, the east coast supercity.

“I don’t use contractions.”
Revisado: 05-12-21
Lots of little things make this sound strange but one of the most common is that sometimes no one uses contractions in casual conversation. This doesn’t sound that bad until one of the characters specifically is noted for not using contractions.
Otherwise the relentless pop culture references can be extremely distracting. 200 years in the future and 80s pop culture references are 40% of the total dialogue.
