Historia
The Solarian League's navy counts its superdreadnoughts by the thousands. Not even its own government knows how enormous its economy truly is. And for hundreds of years, the League has borne the banner of human civilization, been the ideal to which humanity aspires in its diaspora across the galaxy. But the bureaucrats known as the "Mandarins," who rule today's League, are not the men and women who founded it so long ago. They are corrupt, venal, accountable to no one...and they've decided the upstart Star Kingdom of Manticore must be destroyed.

Historia
Neanderthals have developed a radically different civilization on a parallel Earth. A Neanderthal physicist, Ponter Boddit, accidentally passes from his universe into a Canadian underground research facility. Fortunately, a team of human scientists, including expert paleo-anthropologist Mary Vaughan, promptly identifies and warmly receives Ponter. Solving the language problem and much else is a mini-computer, called a Companion, implanted in the brain of every Neanderthal. But it can't help his fellow scientist back in his world, Adikor Huld, when the authorities charge Adikor with his murder.

A very good book
Revisado: 06-17-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Words of Radiance to be better than the print version?
I enjoy the audio edition better than print and Kindle. I can't drive nor can I run while reading but Brian Sanderson makes the commute or running a few miles something to look forward to.
Any additional comments?
The performance by Kramer and Reading is very, very good. I enjoy the book better than I would a movie.

Historia
For centuries, the world of Safehold, last redoubt of the human race, lay under the unchallenged rule of the Church of God Awaiting. The Church permitted nothing new - no new inventions, no new understandings of the world. What no one knew was that the Church was an elaborate fraud - a high-tech system established by a rebel faction of Safehold’s founders, meant to keep humanity hidden from the powerful alien race that had destroyed old Earth.

An excellent book, I'm impatient for next one
Revisado: 06-17-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Indeed, I recommend the book. I really enjoy Weber's writing, I got turned on to him many years ago when I picked up an early Honor Harrington book at a factory store while travelling for business. The series has so much to look forward to and old guys shouldn't be waiting so long for a book.
Any additional comments?
I'm impressed with the far, far distant future of earth and the Human race.

Historia
Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

Crazy and really farfetched, a great listen!
Revisado: 02-19-15
What did you love best about Snow Crash?
Many different characters, I'd like to see a follow up.
What about Jonathan Davis’s performance did you like?
He easily moves between genders, nationalities and generations without a hitch. It was easy to stay on storyline without even thinking of the reader, like reading myself. Better though because I don't read as well when driving at 70 mph.

Historia
Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny). Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel from one world to the next, but they never truly belong in either.

Need to think about it
Revisado: 12-25-13
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
It is engrossing, every now and then I pause and just think about it, during the action and pretty good story I feel a bit of harlequin romance sneaking out. It ended well and I bought the next in the series so I can decide.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Author and Narration are top of the line!
Revisado: 05-23-13
If you could sum up The Way of Kings in three words, what would they be?
Holds your interest, that is 3 words. The characters are developed well and they have a fascinating way of interrelating. I look forward to the next in the series.
What does Kate Reading and Michael Kramer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
They both complement each other and have a little contrast in tempo and even pronunciations. I look forward to listening to then again.
Any additional comments?

Historia
Once the Church of God Awaiting dominated all the kingdoms of Safehold. Then, after centuries of stasis, the island kingdom of Charis began to defy the edicts of Mother Church—egged on, some say, by the mysterious warrior-monk Merlin Athrawes, who enjoys the Charisian royal family's absolute trust. What vanishingly few people know is that Merlin is the cybernetic avatar of a young woman a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which aliens destroyed Earth...and that since awakening, his task has been to restart the history of the long-hidden human race.

Get used to new narration
Revisado: 02-13-13
Where does Midst Toil and Tribulation rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Kevin Collins does a great job, it would be 100% if if pronounced the names of people and places the same way as the first 5 books. It definitely didn't diminish the story but it came to mind every time he pronounced the CH proper nouns as in "charlie" instead of "character". I'm not anal enough to be too bothered but as I said, it came to mind often when the Empress and the Empire's name sound different. If he read the first five books, I would be just as distracted by the change to the sound. I wait impatiently for the next book.
What other book might you compare Midst Toil and Tribulation to and why?
It has great continuity, it brings Peter Hamilton's Void series to mind, to my mind anyway.
Any additional comments?
I've read or listened to all of David Weber's work, he keeps me occupied.
