I started with Dead At First Sight, the previous book in the series, since I am a big fan of the Grace television series on BritBox. I really enjoyed Dead At First Sight and was eager to listen to this one, but unfortunately, it fell somewhat flat. The book might as well have been called a Meg Magellan book because Grace almost came off as a minor character in his book. Probably 2/3 of the book focuses on Meg and her role as a juror in the drug case, while Roy is relegated to mainly dealing with Cassian Pewe and family issues. The build-up was good, but the ending was very abrupt with conclusions seemingly cobbled together at the last moment. I am going to continue with the series, but I hope that it goes back to being about Grace doing the work and solving a case.

I've been a fan of the Grace series on BritBox, so I decided to give the books a shot and see what they were like. I started with a later title, and I wasn't disappointed. The narration and storyline are excellent, with the details of these romance scams infuriating and sad simultaneously. I love the way the narrator does Cassian Pewe, as the character is somewhat of a weasel and he makes him sound that way. Highly recommended.

First of all, Steven Weber could do a Masterclass on how to do audiobooks. I’ve marked several books to get just because he’s the narrator.

The book is really good, and while you always have to suspend disbelief when it comes to fiction, some of it sometimes seemed a bit too far fetched. But that’s a minor quibble. Coben’s strength is his ability to take everyday people and put them in the most extraordinary of circumstances and makes it seem easy. Definitely worth the time.
