It could have been great.
Revisado: 06-19-24
Thisvstory dragged on and on. By the end I was really hoping The Architects would win. if for no other reason that would be the end of this story line.
The characters were all two dimensional and played straight in to their cookie cutter templates. As unfortunate as this is Adrian Tchaikovsky has so many other truly unique and wonderfully creative books that it should not turn anyone off to his work.

A bit slow and plods along
Revisado: 12-03-22
I have been spoiled over the years and have come to expect more from Brandon Sanderson. There is nothing inherently wrong or for that matter bad about this story. Unfortunately it just felt flat and is just a story. A good story but nothing extraordinary. I can only hope that the final volume ends as others have and is a satisfying end.

No Magic In This Title
Revisado: 03-04-22
I try to write more positive reviews than bad as authoring a work is no small chore, and there are plenty of critics already. I save the bad reviews for works that are so bad that I feel the need to put a warning label of the volume. Unfortunately, this is just such an example.
Not only is the performance monotone and flat but the first books story, character development and world building is so bad I can go no further. Every other word is mage or tech. I enjoy good melding of fantasy and science fiction. The Black Company is an excellent example of a book that executes a near perfect blend of the two.
However, this so awful that I think it may have caused me physical pain. How anyone with better than a third grade education gave this monstrosity more than a single start is beyond me.
The content is so bad that it comes through in the narration. The total lack of any emotion does not help to draw you into the story. You cannot blame the acting in this case. The content is so bad there are times you can hear the actor saying in his head "What?" as he is reading.
Don't waste your time.

It starts a little slow
Revisado: 11-11-19
There may be a little too much background building and creditablity development for some. However, once this story starts rolling down hill man is it a great ride.

Revisado: 11-20-18
In the 9th book the multiple story lines begin to merge. Not all of the subplots are touchedthe but core threads begins to solidify. The epic you have waited eight books for unfolds and you get your first true glimpse of the Dragon Reborn. All of his flaws, uncertainty and mistakes bubble up as he confronts his inevitable end. A great first step in to the remaining books begins here.

But exhaustion, treachery, and time may all prove deadlier enemies. In Alba, Queen Desiderata struggles to rebuild her kingdom wrecked by a year of civil war, even as the Autumn battles are fought in the west. Drags a Bit
Revisado: 05-22-18
For the culmination of a series I felt this final book didn't give the same dynamic stories as the preceeding books did. It was all one long slog to the final battle. Even then thing were a little quickly and easily wrapped up in my opinion.

Excellent. Excellent.. Excellent
Revisado: 02-09-18
What a treat for book two to be even better than the first installment. This is a dynamic ride all the way to the end. The twisting and turning plot matches the twisting and turning of the mysts. Read this book only after reading book one. Read this book if you want to have a great story be brought to life by a true master story teller. Read this book if you need to escape this world for a few hours every so often. You will thank yourself later for the investment.

Historia
Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild. Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder. It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.
