An original tale…
Revisado: 04-26-25
I’m not sure what I was expecting coming into reading this book, but after finishing I’m very pleased. For a book like this to make it to publishing and boast so much success with readers during the 60’s is quite interesting. The story was quite entertaining and completely original. I don’t feel like I could compare this book to any other I’ve ever read. It’s mystical and mind-bending at times. I was very surprised by the mixing of scientific elements along with religious elements. I did not see that coming. It didn’t bother me at all, just very unexpected. I also love all the characters, but had the most issues with Meg; most definitely because I could see my younger (quite annoying) self in her. I especially loved all the “Mrs.” characters in this story. They were so fun and are such a brilliant-creative thought. Overall, I loved!

Yeah, take this whole book and inject it into my veins
Revisado: 04-24-25
I loved being able to add dimensions to Snows character after meeting him in The Hunger Games trilogy. From his devolving good qualities of his mother, to the slow progression into his father, it was so interesting to discover who he really is; how he got to where he would eventually end up. His feels and emotions towards everything and everyone pulled you constantly in so many directions. It was creepy at times, hearing him justify himself and his actions. If anyone didn’t know what he had done 60 years later with Katniss, they would read this and be convinced that he’s really not that bad, simply from how well he presents and justifies everything he does. Suzanne Collin’s REALLY knows what she’s doing. I hope she never stops writing in this series.

Definitely creepy
Revisado: 04-23-25
This book did a good job at creeping me the f*** out. I felt like it was a little cliché and easy to see the parallels, but overall it kept me on my toes and thoroughly gave me the creeps. I loved the Scottish Highlands setting. Once that was established I settled in and was for sure finishing the book. Both of the narrators did a fantastic job and made it easy to picture myself in the story. I have conflicting feelings on how I feel about the main characters and how the plot progresses, but I’m also way too rational and realistic for mystery’s/thrillers most of the time. It was a very good book and will definitely be recommending to my mystery/thrillers friends!

So much potential
Revisado: 03-19-25
I really loved the idea of this fantasy; doomed love, reincarnation, and ect. I just feel like it wasn’t executed as best as it could. I kept waiting for more, wanting more from the characters love, their past lives, and the present day storyline. Also, the author used more descriptive language and smilies than should be legally allowed, like SO MUCH description when she should’ve put more effort into the actual dialogue between characters. It was a good book and I enjoyed it, but it had so much potential to be do much better.

Historia
The Roman Republic is one of the most breathtaking civilizations in world history. Between roughly 500 BCE to the turn of the millennium, a modest city-state developed an innovative system of government and expanded into far-flung territories across Europe, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. This powerful civilization inspired America's founding fathers, gifted us a blueprint for amazing engineering innovations, left a vital trove of myths, and has inspired the human imagination for 2,000 years.

A good 30,000 foot view of the rise and fall of Rome
Revisado: 03-10-25
This was my first read/listen to anything regarding the history of Rome. I think this is a great beginning point for anyone getting into reading and learning about the history of Rome. It doesn’t bog you down terribly with names and dates, but focuses on the Roman people as a whole as well; diving into the culture and experiences of the body of Rome. These lectures have definitely inspired me to read more in depth lectures. Highly recommend!

Historia
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

A great listen!
Revisado: 03-10-25
One of this things I wasn’t too fond of in this book was a little repetitiveness in Part 1. I understand it was needed to really tell the story, I just feel like it went on and on for a while there. I absolutely loved Angrboda. Her feisty and no-bull-shit nature was so much fun to listen to. I loved her Scottish sounding accent. I had a great time listening and would definitely recommend this book to others who like listening to Norse Mythology tales!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Revisado: 02-21-25
This was such a wonderful book. Such a great book to recommend as an easy read. I found myself laughing and crying often. Especially when finding out who was “A remarkably bright creature”. The creativity to come up with a character such as Marcellus is genius, and performance for all of the characters was 10/10.

I’m definitely reading this again. Such a GREAT book! Peter does such a great job at explaining everything. It does get a little heavy on the medical jargon at times, but I think he does a great job at keeping you involved. This definitely changed with way I view life and will probably stick with me for a very long time.

While I think the performance for this series/book is wonderful, I personally didn’t connect well or like listening to this story. The story was engaging, had a very in-depth world and magic system, and the characters were diverse and interesting, but I was constantly getting lost. After book 2 I kind of gave up trying to decipher what character we were talking about and the role they played. There was almost too much going on in my opinion, and it is my opinion. I think I would’ve personally faired better if the physical copy was read. Still a great read!!

I’m confused
Revisado: 12-04-24
It seems like this book became more and more confusing as pages turned. I was excited to uncover more after book 1, but book 2 didn’t do a great job of painting a picture of what’s happening, the difference in characters (race/species), history, etc. I’m not sure if it is due to listening instead of reading but the constant flashbacks and changing of POV between characters was a world wind. I enjoyed this book, I just wish I had a better grasp of what was actually happening, characters decisions, and locations in this story.
