I’m glad I stopped putting off this purchase
Revisado: 01-17-23
I was turned off at 1st by the southern accident which Anastasia Wately did brilliantly. From the sample recording I didn’t know if everyone would have a southern accent…nothing against the accent…some of my favourite people are southern, but it’s different when applied to a stranger.
Laurie was the only one with a southern accent which definitely grew on me. Anastasia did an AMAZING job!! She made the sex scenes so steamy and enjoyable. She made each character unique. I loved Diana’s sensual voice.
Roslyn Sinclair is brilliant. I just finished listening to the Carlisle series and loved it, but I think I like this one even more.
I’m so glad I read a review that said to keep listening because the southern accent would grow on me. It certainly

Basic Saphic romance
Revisado: 01-16-23
Although the storyline was a little different, it was pretty boring. However what I liked about this novel was the lack of drawn out tension. Sometimes the tension level in most cliché lesfic novels is way too much. This book didn’t really have much tension which was refreshing.
The back and forth of miscommunication that goes on for 60-70% of the average romance novel is ridiculous. If it takes that long to express mutual feelings then it’s hard to see how the relationship could be successful. This was a refreshing aspect of the storyline…there wasn’t a drawn out misunderstanding. They both loved each other but the disconnect was obvious and understood.
Because of these things I didn’t hate it. The ending was really good, but all in all, it was just “meh” for me. Maybe if there was more passion and sex it would have spiced it up, but it lacked that as well.
As for the narrator, I liked her voice but there wasn’t much of a difference between how each character spoke. Sometimes I didn’t know if it was Baker talking or Casey. But again, I really liked her voice and it’s natural flow. Had there been more sex scenes, I have no doubt that she would have made it incredibly enjoyable. A nice change from Lori Prince who sounds like a squeaky toy in the sac and like everything is a joke. Lori seems to be the choice narrator for lesbian romance audiobooks, which is a huge bummer because I just can’t stand anything about her voice. I haven’t heard this narrator before and it was a pleasant surprise aside from the lack of variation between the characters. I usually can’t hang with that, but for some reason it wasn’t a deal breaker for me.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 12-09-22
I liked that it was different than every other cliché sapphic romance novel, but it was confusing and fragmented. It skipped around family dynamics with random stories thrown in. I kept thinking, “get to the point already!”
There was only one sex scene and it was as disjointed as the rest of the story. There was no forplay or much to draw it out. Tyler went from being unsure about her feelings for her boss one minute, to knocking on Georgie’s door and being underneath her the next. One second there was this nonexistent thing to them sleeping together and Tyler calling her “baby” for the rest of the book. It was an odd endearment to get used to because there wasn’t much of a relationship build up.
The narrator did a good job though. She kept it alive in a sense.

This was definitely a heavy novel. I wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt, but I know that I’m just craving the feel better “I forgive and love you no matter what” ending versus the reality, which is how the book ended…up

Worth the purchase!
Revisado: 11-29-22
It’s rare to find a sapphic romance novel that isn’t ridiculously cheesy or cliche. Not to mention that finding a narrator or narrators that don’t ruin the story can also be a challenge. Both of the narrators did a great job! I especially liked Quinn Riley’s raspy voice. I think this is the 1st book I’ve heard narrated by her and I really enjoyed it.
This novel was unique and funny and I even found myself reaching for a tissue or two. Did I mention that it’s also deliciously sexy?? Like really hott in all the best ways!
I definitely recommend it! It’s been the 1st purchase in a while that was worth the $.

Rebecca Keane has it all figured out. With a successful career as an Army surgeon and a fresh promotion to lieutenant colonel, she loves her life leading a surgical team. Even if that life means she’s spent years hiding her sexuality and ignoring her desires under the Army’s "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy. Then Captain Sabine Fleischer’s arrival sets off an attraction that cracks Rebecca’s carefully cultivated armor and brings about fresh complications.

Simply Amazing!!
Revisado: 08-14-22
All I can say is that I’m so sad this series is over!!
I love Rebecca, and it was so great to experience this devastating love story through her eyes
.
Although most of the shared experiences between her and Sabine were verbatim, I was really surprised at the the intensity of Keane’s feelings for Sabine from the very beginning.
I think the most important thing that needed telling was Bec’s experience about “the incident”…It really put everything in perspective.
Not only that, but it showed how abhorrent the military is regarding homosexuality and DADT. There aren’t enough words to articulate how f**ked up the whole thing is! Uggh.
As far as narration…Abby Craden is the best of the best! She undoubtedly took Sabine and Rebecca’s story to the next level. I love books, but I can’t imagine how reading it could even come close to the experience of having Abby Craden bring these characters to life through her telling of it.
I’m literally grieving the end to this series :0(

Revisado: 05-17-22
Great book! Great narrator! Great fun! I’m a tough sell, and and this has the perfect amount of foul language, always welcome humor, and best of all, the perfect relationship dynamic between Farshot and Gear Monkey.
Great ending too. A lot of trilogy’s and duology’s have endings that happen too fast and leave you feeling befuddled and dissatisfied. Not this one though. I definitely recommend it!

Cheezier then a block of Velveeta!
Revisado: 05-14-22
The 1st book of this series had some promise, however the sequel fell short. 80% of the book was Gemma rejecting Leo and saying how horrible he was and at the same time gushing over him.
Besides the 2 steamy sex scenes and the occasional “F” bomb, it’s VERY juvenile in nature.
It was also incredibly predictable.

Great storyline, incredibly annoying main characters!
Revisado: 05-12-22
I decided to give this sequel a chance, even though I didn’t care for the main characters, I liked the storyline, so I decided to come back for more.
As far as the main characters, I could totally adore Evie if she wasn’t so self deprecating and in love with the most immature man ever.
In the first book, “Kill the Queen” Estep makes a good attempt at world building as well as introducing a unique magical system. However her foundation is so juvenile in nature, that it’s hard to believe that the characters are adults. It’s confusing because Evie and Sullivan act like wounded children 80% of the time but then Evie will drop a glorious “F” bomb or have a sexual fantasy or kick some a** and (if you’re like me) it reminds you why you stuck with it.
In this book, “Protect the Prince”, I was so turned off by Sullivan that I wanted to scream! He’s in his early 30’s but I’m not kidding when I say that my 5 year old nephew is more mature then this guy. Sullivan stomps around like a little boy throwing tantrums and blaming everyone for being mean to him. Instead of telling him to get it together and grow the “F” up, Evie blames herself for his lot in life and his little boy tantrums. She wants to fix his boo, boos and she apologises to him every time he lashes out. It’s actually disgusting and takes away any respect I had for Evie. I had to stop listening because it just made me want to perpetually kick Sullivan in the balls.
Lauren Fortgang was ok. She had an annoying tone…I can’t explain it, but she sounded like she was reading a fairy tail to a little kid.
It had one good sex scene and some “F” bombs here and there, and when Evie acted like the strong protagonist you wanted her to be, it was doable, but otherwise, it was pretty ridiculous!

Historia
In a realm where one’s magical power determines one’s worth, Lady Everleigh’s lack of obvious ability relegates her to the shadows of the royal court of Bellona, a kingdom steeped in gladiator tradition. Seventeenth in line for the throne, Evie is nothing more than a ceremonial fixture, overlooked and mostly forgotten. But dark forces are at work inside the palace. When her cousin Vasilia, the crown princess, assassinates her mother the queen and takes the throne by force, Evie is also attacked, along with the rest of the royal family.

It had so much potential
Revisado: 05-12-22
The one thing I liked about this book is the adult language and the open sexual innuendos. There are a lot of great books out there with similar plot lines, but most of them are young adult and they fall victim to the princess falling in love with the prince BS.
She loses her power and gives it all away to the dreamy boy who steals her heart. Gag. I love a strong female lead who isn’t shy about her ability to fight and f***k, and at times, swear like a sailor.
Unfortunately this story quickly fell victim to the fairy tale princess cliche. The main character Evie is in her late 20’s yet she comes across as a 12 year old little girl who is stuck re-living her days in the palace when she was teased and locked out of the playroom. It got really old really fast. It’s like move on already! I was so sick of all the flashbacks of those little girls wounds that I almost stopped listening. I wanted a strong female lead and I often forgot that she was 27 because she was so childish.
Then she’d throw out a few F bombs and start to act like protagonist I was interested in, so I stuck with it.
About an hour into the story, she meets Sullivan. As the story progresses so does my annoyance with him. He’s a 30 year old brooding boy who is just as wounded by his bastard status as she is. Eventually it just becomes and eye rolling whine fest.
The other frustrating thing was Evie’s immediate tendency to blame herself for any bad thing that happened. Someone got a hangnail and it was her fault…obviously I’m being facetious, but it’s not far from the truth.
I stuck with it because I liked the unique magic system, as well as the other characters. I was also holding out hope that Evie would grow up. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, instead she fell hard for the brooding man boy Sullivan.
As far as the narration, it bothered me. Lauren often had this tone to her voice that was annoying. Probably because she was just as fed up with plot line as I was. Also, there wasn’t much variation with the male characters, so most of them sounded the same.
If there wasn’t swearing, this book would be more suited for 10-16 year olds.
