Historia
Red Schuhart is a stalker, one of those young rebels who are compelled, in spite of extreme danger, to venture illegally into the Zone to collect the mysterious artifacts that the alien visitors left scattered around. His life is dominated by the place and the thriving black market in the alien products. But when he and his friend Kirill go into the Zone together to pick up a "full empty", something goes wrong.

"Happiness, free for everyone, and let noone be forforgotten!"
Revisado: 12-19-24
This was an excellent novel, and it is oddly applicable for an American half a century after its writing. I came for the inspiration of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, and found an introspective look at my own life as an American. The criticism of the post-capitalist system we live is not just socialist propaganda, but rather a cautionary tale for our search for money as a way of life. We should be concerned with morals and ethics, and sometimes the money isn't worth living with. I highly recommend this novel, not just for interesting science fiction, but as a case study in what motivates us in our lives.
The performance was great overall, but a minor complaint I have is that the narrator sometimes made it difficult to understand which character is speaking in dialog. That said, I couldn't have picked a better voice for Red Schuhart; he really made the character feel alive.

Nine out of ten Japanese claim some affiliation with Shinto, but in the West the religion remains the least studied of the major Asian spiritual traditions. It is so interlaced with Japanese cultural values and practices that scholarly studies usually focus on only one of its dimensions: Shinto as a "nature religion", an "imperial state religion", a "primal religion", or a "folk amalgam of practices and beliefs". Thomas Kasulis' fresh approach to Shinto explains with clarity and economy how these different aspects interrelate.

Words one must hear
Revisado: 08-06-22
Ever feel like somebody said something to you that made miss a beat, and had to ponder their words?
Fantastic presentation of Shinto in its whole; from the ancient, to its medieval Buddhist synchronization, and its eventual rise as an ideological basis for the Imperial Japanese. Many questions were raised, and given the appropriate space to be argued in, my opinion, a fair way. This analysis was essentially what I needed to hear for my own spirituality; simply observe, and enjoy.

My favorite book from the Horus Heresy. ADB and Johnathan Keeble are a perfect match for any audiobook.

But all hope is not lost.... A hero, long absent, has returned, and with him comes the wrath of the Ultramarines reborn. Good story, but not on par with the Horusy books. Great buy for those who enjoyed Gathering Storm.

Historia
As the Horus Heresy rages and the death toll rises, one more will be added to the numberless dead: Sibel Niasta, personal astropath to the First Lord of the Imperium, Malcador the Sigillite. As her end approaches, Malcador sits vigil by her bedside, and the pair discuss their friendship and what it means - how the past and present have shaped Malcador and the Imperium, and what the future holds.

Intriguing, and revealing...

Malcador's insight on the primarchs is very telling for just why the heresy happened... Interesting.
