Historia
Ninety-nine elite American soldiers are trapped in the middle of a hostile city. As night falls, they are surrounded by thousands of enemy gunmen. Their wounded are bleeding to death. Their ammunition and supplies are dwindling. This is the story of how they got there - and how they fought their way out. Black Hawk Down drops you into a crowded marketplace in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia with the U.S. Special Forces and puts you in the middle of the most intense firelight American soldiers have fought since the Vietnam war.

Historia
Once an Eagle is the story of one special man, a soldier named Sam Damon, and his adversary over a lifetime, fellow officer Courtney Massengale. Damon is a professional who puts duty, honor, and the men he commands above selfinterest. Massengale, however, brilliantly advances his career by making the right connections behind the lines and in Washington’s corridors of power.

A Good Man
Revisado: 02-04-24
For anyone who served in any military or in any capacity of service, this novel will bring to mind those Damons and Massengales who have influenced us along the way.
I intend the actually read this--and soon-as some of its integral content is lost (not in any way due to the narrator's performance) in the passing if it's audio pages.
One of the simplest (and most poignant) quotes regarding the expectation of a man comes from Mr. Myrer's exhaustive odyssey:
"You can't help what you were born and you may not have much to say about where you die, but you can and you should try to pass the days in between as a good man."
This is an excellent novel, and for those eager to learn from and reflect on the leadership that has influenced their lives--shaping them into the men (or women) they are today--this is a literary must-read.

Historia
In 1980, a freshman congressman was gunned down in Rhode Island, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later. Now, with the world on the brink of war and a weakened United States facing rampant inflation, political division, and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites is ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong.

Excellent Resolution
Revisado: 11-07-23
I could not be more satisfied w/ what is (in my understanding) the last installment of the James Reece series.
Reece's tactics, mindset, resolve, and will to finish the mission is a for e to be reckoned with.
These novels inspire and give many ex-operators a will to continue the mission. Whether that mission is in a simpler life at home, or in continuing to keep America safe in some other career--we can all be encouraged to do our best, regardless of the battlefield, thanks to these novels.
I highly recommend every one of Mr. Carr's exhilarating adventure-thrillers!

Historia
A woman boards a plane in the African country of Burkina Faso having just completed a targeted assassination for the state of Israel. Two minutes later, her plane is blown out of the sky. Over 6,000 miles away, former Navy SEAL James Reece watches the names and pictures of the victims on cable news. One face triggers a distant memory of a Mossad operative attached to the CIA years earlier in Iraq—a woman with ties to the intelligence services of two nations…a woman Reece thought he would never see again.

Love Jack's Work
Revisado: 10-30-23
This was the first book I listened to of Mr. Carr's. I've read all the preceding novels.
This was a phenomenal book!
If you're someone who spends a great deal of time either driving or doing something pseudo-mindless, then I could not encourage you more to listen to these incredible novels.
The story gets an A+ as well as the narration.
I'm starting the next one immediately after writing this review as I don't feel like waiting long to find out what happens next.
On behalf of ex-operators everywhere, thank you Jack. Your novels inspire and give hope for many looking to begin their next mission.

Historia
The Great Game between Victorian Britain and Tsarist Russia was fought across desolate terrain from the Caucasus to China, over the lonely passes of the Parmirs and Karakorams, in the blazing Kerman and Helmund deserts, and through the caravan towns of the old Silk Road - both powers scrambling to control access to the riches of India and the East. When play first began, the frontiers of Russia and British India lay 2000 miles apart; by the end, this distance had shrunk to 20 miles at some points.

Excellent book written by a man who has spent life understanding culture, economics, sociology, and their inherent amalgamation. Although dated, humans are the same and the issues written here are not new nor are they archaic, they are modern and continue to be relevant to this day (22 May 2023).
To anyone interested in America's historical ethnic diversity, this is a great listen!
Thank you for enlightening us once again Professor Sowell.

Historia
The Watchmaker’s Daughter is one of the greatest stories of World War II that listeners haven’t heard: the remarkable and inspiring life story of Corrie ten Boom—a groundbreaking, female Dutch watchmaker, whose family unselfishly transformed their house into a hiding place straight out of a spy novel to shelter Jews and refugees from the Nazis during Gestapo raids. Even though the Nazis knew what the ten Booms were up to, they were never able to find those sheltered within the house when they raided it.

Incredible Story of Pain and Forgivness
Revisado: 04-27-23
This was an excellent book. Very informative and incredibly inspiring. I found myself talking back to the words in certain portions as I was beyond shocked at the misanthropic cruelty of the Nazis and the supernatural strength of the persecuted.
This novel touches my heart as my wife and I are both Ashkenazi (Eastern European Jew) descendants, much of my own family perishing under Hitler's Third Reich.
For anyone interested in learning more of the Holocaust or the effects of National Socialism upon the coastal region of Europe, this is definitely the next book you need to listen to.

Historia
From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David Davy Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were - to his delight - told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act.

Great Ode to America's Hero
Revisado: 02-28-23
This was a great story and the presentation initially threw me off due to the narrator's syntax, but once I grasped his flow everything fell into place.
The book expresses David Crockett's personality, his wanderlust, his passion for greatness, as well as helping us understand that a man doesn't know what he has 'til he knows he'll never see it again.
Crockett is expressed as a flawed and ordinary man; an ordinary man overcoming extraordinary circumstances. I feel that it was his indomitable spirit rather than his charisma or bravery which led him to the annals of American frontier history.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in learning about the life of this truly incredible--and painfully flawed--American hero.

A major new biography of the Civil War general and American president, by the author of the New York Times bestseller A. Lincoln. The dramatic story of one of America's greatest and most misunderstood military leaders and presidents, this is a major new interpretation of Ulysses S. Grant. In a scrap heap within an abandoned factory, the greatest invention in history lies dormant and unused. By what fatal error of judgment has its value gone unrecognized, its brilliant inventor punished rather than rewarded for his efforts? In defense of those greatest of human qualities that have made civilization possible, one man sets out to show what would happen to the world if all the heroes of innovation and industry went on strike.

Incredible and subtle
Revisado: 01-17-23
Ayn Rand delivers a stunning blow to our increasingly lethargic and ignorant train of thought.
Though long-winded and painfully repetitive, the message is delivered w/ the greatest literary conviction of fiction I have ever read.
This is a book delivering a message of America's future, translating the writing already scribbled onto our western culture's walls.
The narrator (Scott Brick) absolutely perfected the story in delivery and I commend his professional efforts as they took what was already incredible and through his subtle tones made it extraordinary.
