Insightful and Delightful
Revisado: 03-31-25
Liked everything! The story line was first rate; the characters were first rate; the narration was first rate. I probably listen to 1-2 books per week. This was a joy!

Losing His Touch
Revisado: 01-30-25
The formula is getting tired and mechanically put together. The absurdly long tangents into culinary snobbery add nothing to the story. The story itself is as placid as a becalmed sea. Still, the characters are terrific (save one) and pull one in. I am still hoping the author will find a way to erase Pamela from the series.

Way Too Wordy!!!!!
Revisado: 01-16-25
This book is only just worth it. The basic story line and the characters are terrific. But, the author drones on and on and drags everything on and on ad naseum. I cannot decide whether to waste 30 hours on something that could be better told in 10.

Revisado: 12-23-24
Engaging characters and an engaging storyline. But, the author is SO INCREDIBLY wordy. And, the efforts at emoting is excessive. Still, I am immediately going to Book 4.

Historia
On November 26, 1791, George Washington convened his department secretaries - Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Henry Knox, and Edmund Randolph - for the first cabinet meeting. Why did he wait two and a half years into his presidency to call his cabinet? Because the US Constitution did not create or provide for such a body. Washington was on his own.

Not quite convinced
Revisado: 10-30-24
Interesting content — much I had never heard before. Strong need for stubborn editor — lots of repetition, 1/3 too long. Mildly annoying narration — too emotive. This is not a romance. All things considered — I am very glad I listened.

Historia
On a beautiful summer day, crowds lined up outside a theater witness a sudden act of extreme road rage: a tap on a fender triggers a nearly homicidal attack. Jackson Brodie, ex-cop, ex-private detective, new millionaire, is among the bystanders. The event thrusts Jackson into the orbit of the wife of an unscrupulous real estate tycoon, a washed-up comedian, a successful crime novelist, a mysterious Russian woman, and a female police detective. Each of them hiding a secret, each looking for love or money or redemption or escape, they all play a role in driving Jackson out of retirement.

Revisado: 09-29-24
I spent hours waiting for the book to get anywhere. The characters are wonderfully drawn, and one feels “inside” their lives. But, I am hours in and still waiting.

These soldiers, fighting in thick Colombian jungles or on dusty Afghani plains, are the forefront of the new American foreign policy, a policy being implemented one soldier at a time.

Fought my way to the end
Revisado: 09-04-24
Interesting information; extravagant premise; overweening arrogance. The author could not restrain himself from displaying his learning, which is nearly as great as he thinks it is. I almost gave up many times, but the core content kept me going. The author never used a short or even long word if he could look up a new one. Pretentiousness run wild.

Decent fare
Revisado: 05-24-24
The story moved along well and kept me engaged. Cliche-ridden and fairly repetitive, but still okay for this genre.
The readers voice was on the mark for this kind of book, but he needs to learn how to pronounce “conflagration.”

Arrogance and Insight
Revisado: 04-28-24
The insight is well worth the time required, but the arrogance of the author — the only living person ever to have comprehended matters universally botched by others — is painful. More painful is the prissy narration, which not infrequently gives the sense of being bemused by the subject.

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Chocolate cake with arsenic
Revisado: 01-06-24
Wonderful story marred by periodic blotches of gratuitous smut. Performance is generally good but occasionally descends into 13-year-old girl. The story is compelling but I grew tired of fast-forwarding past the garbage. No more for me.
