Michael’s book are the best combination of fantasy, magic, queerness. The book is funny and it takes you on a fantastical adventure. We have read and heard the book several times now.

It is the book that made me wonder whether someone can get a PTSD from reading a book.

A detective story with no resolution
Revisado: 02-19-20
They keep you enthralled by introdusing more and more unexpected turn, and then offer no resolution at the end. Such a lazy writing.

Historia
For a nation that elected Barack Obama as president, here is the first novel of the new era: The Mere Future, by award-winning novelist, activist, and playwright Sarah Schulman, set in a utopian (or is it dystopic?) future vision of New York City. The city has morphed into what appears to be an idealized version of itself, the result of what the new mayor calls "The Big Change," in which rent is cheap, homelessness is a thing of the past, and the only job left is marketing.

It's ok
Revisado: 01-12-20
"We decided to interview a person who's opinion matters... but they never replied"
The author tried hard to makes something sensational out of the material he gathered and failed. It is still a good listen, yet the attempts to sensationalize the work are obsious and boring. The author also tries to throw in a couple of unrelated topics following the logic "well it has something to do with computers, so why not?"

Historia
From intimate relationships to global politics, Sarah Schulman observes a continuum: that inflated accusations of harm are used to avoid accountability. Illuminating the difference between conflict and abuse, Schulman directly addresses our contemporary culture of scapegoating. This deep, brave, and bold work reveals how punishment replaces personal and collective self-criticism, and shows why difference is so often used to justify cruelty and shunning.

Great book

I believe many people will find something they like in it. I personally did not care much about political parts of this book. However, the book is full of advice on personal emotional intelligence, which I loved.

Historia
Although acceptance of difference is on the rise in America, it's the rare gay or lesbian person who has not been demeaned because of his or her sexual orientation, and this experience usually starts at home, among family members. Whether they are excluded from family love and approval, expected to accept second-class status for life, ignored by mainstream arts and entertainment, or abandoned when intervention would make all the difference, gay people are routinely subjected to forms of psychological and physical abuse unknown to many.

I enjoyed it.
Revisado: 01-11-20
I enjoyed this book. The author makes some excellent points and invites you to think it through with her. However, the author uses plenty examples from her life, which confused me at times: do I choose to agree with the author out of compassion or was a logical well-formed argument?

What’s in a name? A lot. The name Tinaca, for example, has been passed down in the Jones family for generations of women. In fact, the Joneses name a Tinaca every other generation, to let the name breathe a little. To let each Tinaca shine. And shine is exactly what Tinaca Jones intends to do.

The story is not bad but is not great either. However, the performance makes this book extremely enjoyable. Great fun.
