Historia
We've seen the news stories and heard the rumors. Maybe we ourselves have been hurt by a narcissistic church leader. It's easy to throw the term around and diagnose others from afar. But what is narcissism, really? And how does it infiltrate the church?

Non-Biblical Diagnosis and Solutions
Revisado: 12-14-24
This is a thoroughly psychological take on problems with little reference to the Bible. Sin are presented as psychological problems rather than rebellion against God. The solution is psychotherapy rather than repentance.

Historia
In virtually every way that can be measured, Gen Z’s mental health is worse than that of previous generations. Youth suicide rates are climbing, antidepressant prescriptions for children are common, and the proliferation of mental health diagnoses has not helped the staggering number of kids who are lonely, lost, sad and fearful of growing up. What’s gone wrong with America’s youth? In Bad Therapy, bestselling investigative journalist Abigail Shrier argues that the problem isn’t the kids—it’s the mental health experts.

There’s no such thing as black interpretation
Revisado: 05-24-24
I find it divisive to speak of “Black Interpretation”. While it would be foolish to ignore trends, would it not be less divisive to identify trends by their method rather than the color of those employing the method? While wordier and more awkward, we could talk about “interpretation that is often found in majority black communities in modern America”. The key difference here is that the interpretation itself is not black. Interpretation has no race. Saying, “black interpretation” implies that the interpretation itself is inextricably tied to a race. It means that there are “black ideas” and “white ideas”, a bitterly divisive notion.
McCaulley writes about “black theology”, “black interpretation”, “black culture”, “black dreams”, “black hope”, and more. I ought to pray and strive for a church where we stop thinking about “black theology” and “white theology” and can just focus on theology. I don’t love Augustine’s theology because he was African, but because he was brilliant.

Historia
When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today.

Ehrman’s history is extremely helpful, but he often delves into highly controversial territory that he states as fact. He often is willing to pronounce that a text is unreliable when his evidence simply doesn’t measure up.

A healthy dose of humility
Revisado: 09-06-23
This is exactly what all church members need to hear. My only critique, and it is a mild one, is that his characterizations glorifies pastors and criticize laymen. It seems as if every pastor is a saint while every layman is a sinner.
