I did not see any original thought from AJ Ayres; almost all concepts of empiricism and logic were borrowed from previous philosophers such as Hume and Russell.

The author relies too heavily on subjective opinion to present a topic that requires greater objectivity. It is interesting if you do not have high expectations.

As a medical researcher I found several weaknesses in the presentation on that topic. For example his presentation on evidence generation in research points to lack of sufficient experience. This made me question the reliability of points made in areas I am less experienced. The presenter’s bias and apparent lack of respect for those who differ makes me question his objectivity and balance.

The book is an encyclopedia of topics related to the rise and presentation of Christianity throughout the ages. The book is a must read for any serious seeker of the history and development of Christianity as well as its influence in today’s world. Stark presents both sides of every topic with a compelling evidence based input. I am now a Rodney Stark fan.

This is my textbook for History of Christianity class at University. Its historical accounts of the Early Church are well organized and laid out with great care. He provides logical and a great flow of the events that shaped the world of Christians and great insight into the evidence based and objective presentation of history. I recommend the Vol 1 (I have not yet read Vol 2).

However, no historian is 100% objective and unbiased, or without weaknesses, this applies to Gonzales. The bias included undermining the gravity of persecution of Christians by Julian the Apostate. The weakness is all but ignoring the gravity and events leading to the simultaneous appointment of 3 Popes at the same time and the power struggle and lessons to the Church that ensued. Compared to other historians Gonzales is great and his weakness is minimal.

R C Sproul is one of the best speakers I have listen to over the years. In these series he schematically introduces the history of the church in the most objective way possible. It is only fair that he focuses on the reformed church and theology given that is his denomination as presbyterian. But the insights and lessons are amazing. You will enjoy the journey and learn. Educated Christians are effective Christians

The best information are usually the simplest and the most intuitive. What Dave Ramsey and Rachel Cruz teach here makes a lot of sense, they simply point out facts that had stood the test of time. We are unfortunately sucked into a culture of credit and borrowing. If I learned one thing out of this book I learned to get out of debt, I am also reminded how to be intentional about planning my expenses and investment. The challenge for me is transferring this knowledge to my children but I am determined to do it. Thank you very much Dave and Rachel.

The first few chapters describing the history of the great Genghis Khan and conquests as well as the following mongol rulers is excellent. I would give that 5 stars. However, I give the remainder of the subjective chapters one star. The book slowly presents an unsubstantiated and biased view of the impact of Genghis Khan and the mongols on the world. The reality is the mongols did not have a culture to spread, did not have inventions to share, even the language was forbidden for foreigners.

The Mongols did not allow others to learn Mongols ways or become Mongol, they kept everyone not a born mongol on the outside throughout their history of ruling one of the largest empires ever. They used to administer one territory using other territory's knowledge and expertise offering nothing Mongolian to the new conquered areas. Rather the mongols became more and more like the different cultures they lived in simply because they have no culture to offer to even to identify with. In China they became Chinese and the near Asia became Turks or Persians.

I respect greatly the love of mongols the author clearly have. But love -in my view- clouded his views and prevented him from seeing reality. After all the mongols' strength was primarily in their military might, and their savage terrorising armies that destroy everyone and everything in its way. I like the rough nomad Genghis Khan was and the simple life he lead, he was always true to his origins; this unfortunately was not followed by later Mongol rulers. I am not sure I can blame the europeans and middle eastern people portraying the Mongols as inferior based on barbaric destruction. Also the facial characteristics of Down syndrome patients were unfortunately described as Mongolian due to a true or perceived likeness to Mongolian features and while that is unacceptable degradation of the mongols that was corrected later is not necessarily an intentional attempt to degrade Mongols.

I think the greatness of Mongols lead by Gengis Khan does not need defending to such a degree that tries to turn a once interpreted empire as evil to be the greatest in all history.

The story appears to assume that the reader/listener knows China’s modern history and jumps from one era to another and one topic to another with little cohesion.

If this is the first time you learn about China’s modern history the book will leave you wanting.

Don’t waste your time and find a better book.

A must read for anyone interested in Chinese history or politics. The principles in Sun Tzu's The Art of War are simple but for its time revolutionary! Many modern strategists in military, politics and -recently- business claim to use its enduring principles.

I would listen to a male vice narrator rather than the female one here, just to keep the imagination of Sun Tzu himself talking. Of course the female narrator did a good job anyway.
