The Dead Hand is the suspense-filled story of the people who sought to brake the speeding locomotive of the arms race, then rushed to secure the nuclear and biological weapons left behind by the collapse of the Soviet Union—a dangerous legacy that haunts us even today. The Cold War was an epoch of massive overkill.

Historia
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Brutally honest
Revisado: 04-03-24
If you need a good reminder of why you should pray to God daily, this book is it. It's a brutally honest description of the state of the world today, sitting on the edge of the nuclear precipice. It took humans, thousands of years to build a civilization until today, yet all this can be destroyed within a matter of hours. The world must collectively walk back, away from the madness that is nuclear weapons. Reagan & Gorbachev was right in their joint statement “We affirm that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.”

Historia
Discover the magic of the Indonesian island of Bali in this captivating book on its history, from the origins of Bali’s geological formation until modern times. Bali is known as “the Island of the Gods”, with its tens of thousands of temples and shrines dating back more than a millennium to the exotic Indianized empires of Java that influenced Bali greatly. Although it bore witness to the ancient Maritime Silk Road of Southeast Asia, Bali mysteriously avoided complete domination by ocean traders and European colonizers until as late as the 20th century.

Historical inaccuracy
Revisado: 09-04-23
Several factual inaccuracies were discovered, that can easily be compared with other credible sources. Especially regarding the end of Soeharto’s rules. These factual inaccuracies put the credibility of the rest of the audiobook in question.

Historia
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

A critical read for everyone who cares about preserving democracy in their country.
Revisado: 10-18-20
This book should be mandatory reading for all high school and college students in civic classes. It presents a very thorough survey of the challenges facing democracies today, and the solutions to overcome and preserve democracies and to create a more perfect union. I highly recommend this book for every voter who cares about the well-being of democratic institutions and democratic norms within their country. A great American president once warned that freedom and democracy don't get passed down naturally, rather it requires hard work and vigilance to maintain it. This book does a great job of fleshing out that idea.
