I would call it a comedy of errors, but it isn't

I tried. I really did. I made it through 3 of the 4 books, but when a story is a chore to listen to it just isn't good. The people in the story are all trash. The story itself just seems like one stupid choice after another. Maybe it's my fault for not paying attention taking the title too seriously, but honestly I just feel gross listening to the books and wish I had never bought the book, or that I had listened to it sooner so I knew to return it.

The ACTUAL Hunger Games

Triple Threat? Yes please!

This book is a triple threat in the LitRPG world.
1) a well written female MC who has clear reasons as to why she knows what she knows and can do what she does.
2) a compelling story/world that creates reasons for the MC to dive deeper into the world
3) an unique power that makes the MCs actions and engagement in the world more understandable and further develops the story!
My only disappointment is that it took me this long to discover this book and author! Bravo! Bravo!

Thought ls from a Behavior Analyst

Reader/listener be warned! You are entering a book that will equip you with skills that will change your world view and help you detect maniplation attempts by dangerous systems.
This book does an excellent job of defining what constitutes a cult and providing information to ensure you are safe from their maniplations. Those organizations, many quite powerful because of their maniplations, will do their best to stop this information. Because of this, I cannot recommend this book enough. My day job is as a licensed behavior analyst. While the area I work in is not directly related to this topic, the reality is that too often the lack of awareness of these issues increases the chances of people coming to harm. Even in my field, where there is licensing and ethics codes, it is essential for customers and clients to be educated in the event that some of these manipulative tactics are applied to them. But the reality is that while that issue is fairly low, that political, economic, and religious cults are increasingly dangerous and prevalent. This book gives you information that can help you. I wish the language was a bit more precise, but that's more for me since in behavior analysis that is a big part of my field. Either way, this book is more precious than platinum!

Underpowered? I think not!

I got this book on a whim after reading someone else's description of it. I am not regretting it! Solid writing! Fantastic world building! Well thought out plot. Interesting character development. 10 out of 10! I definitely recommend it! I'm excited to read more from John L. Monk soon!

The True Fathers of LitRPG

Larry Biven & Steven Barnes are the true fathers of LitRPGs, and this book is the proof of it. It's not the greatest compared to the stuff we have access to now, but it is worth the read. A good story with a fun mystery included.

Great story, but the reader

Great story, but the reader, while good with his tone and inflection, has a horrible time with his volume control! Seriously! I spent so much time trying to understand what the hell he was saying when he dropped his volume that I regularly got frustrated with the book! I had to stop listening several times because I needed a break from the frustration.

A Good Follow-up

I read the reviews of other listeners and was hesitant to continue listening. But I decided to give it a shot because the first book was enjoyable. I honestly don't understand why people hate this follow-up book so much. It was a good continuation of the first book and allowed to protagonist yo develop and grow. Was it the best book ever? No. But it was a fun story that hopefully will lead to future books and more interesting situations for our hero, Nick, to grow and learn from. I liked it and will be keeping it.
