disappointed
Revisado: 01-13-25
I wanted to like and enjoy this product because previously, I bought "Italian Vocabulary Builder" from Lingo Mastery and it is one of the best language-learning, audio products in my library, just brilliant !
"Intermediate Spanish Short Stories" was a disappointment, not because of the stories, which are nicely crafted, though not memorable, and not because of the vocabulary which was well chosen. I was disappointed with the voices and to some degree with the accents, but I will only talk about the voices here. Were these voices supposed to be cute or clever or something like that ? To me, they are less than pretty, often sounding manipulated and unnatural. Honestly, I would have preferred to listen to Siri for five hours.

Historia
After more than 20 years away, Alda Sigmundsdottir returned to her native Iceland as a foreigner. With a native person's insight yet an outsider's perspective, Alda quickly set about dissecting the national psyche of the Icelanders. This second edition, from 2018, contains new and updated chapters from the original edition, reflecting the changes in Icelandic society and among the Icelandic people since the book was first published in 2012.

disappointed

The author seems so bratty, obnoxious and full of herself, insufferable. On a positive note, two stars for a few, pithy and precious phrases of Icelandic.

Historia
Between 1793 and 1794, thousands of French citizens were imprisoned and hundreds sent to the guillotine by a powerful dictatorship that claimed to be acting in the public interest. Only a few years earlier, revolutionaries had proclaimed a new era of tolerance, equal justice, and human rights. How and why did the French Revolution's lofty ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity descend into violence and terror?

A lot of information.
Revisado: 04-01-23
There is a lot of information in this series of lectures. The author knows the subject well and is qualified to present his point of view which is very interesting, but ultimately, narrow-minded, representing an enthusiastic but rather one-sided view of some historical events.

In this gallery of extraordinary minds, you’ll encounter the leading lights of a world-shaping era, including figures such as Maimonides, Hildegard of Bingen, Bernard of Clairvaux, Peter Abelard, and Francesco Petrarch. Professor Armstrong goes to great lengths to bring these historic figures to life, revealing both the great intellectual contributions and the personal strivings, challenges, and triumphs of some of history’s most remarkable human beings.

a little disappointing

I did not perceive much enthusiasm for the topic. I would have preferred a more expansive discussion of the works which had the most profound effect on Western Civilization.
