Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Wow! Amazing on audible
Revisado: 09-19-19
What a story. The writing is absolutely beautiful and there was something almost lyrical about it when the narrator read it. My sister recommended the story and I’m so glad she did. Near the end I found myself sitting in the car a little while longer to finish a chapter, and stealing a few minutes of audio here and there when I could at home.
I’ll never look at NC or marshland the same again! In the end, there are so many life take-aways on prejudice, loneliness, isolation, survival, and the human spirit. Worth the read (or in this case, the listen)

Authentic and hilarious!
Revisado: 10-20-15
Mindy's voice is real, down to earth, and funny. This book kept me laughing at inopportune moments in public. I hated it to end. I wish Mindy were in the car next to me right now narrating life.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Twists and Turns!

Could not put it down and finished it in 2 days. Narrator is wonderful (love the British accent) and does a fantastic job across the 3 protagonists. Does not disappoint.

Almost impossible to stop listening. My husband and I were so enthralled it was hard to pull over for gas pit stops on our road trip. Some of the examples in this book have stuck with us long after listening. Truly fascinating!

Thankfully not a typical love story
Revisado: 08-06-07
In the beginning of the story, I thought it was too detailed and the dialogue a little bland. At one point Savannah says "Duh!" which isn't really a good fit for the linguistics of the late 90's. I held on though, and was rewarded in the end. The detail from earlier helped create the emotional climax near the end...and the characters had grown and blossomed into extraordinarily complex people. I found myself surprised at several twists in the road, both by the way the story was unfolding and the depth of emotion I felt for the characters. The reader did a good job with voices too. I would definitely recommend it as a sweet emotional journey that isn't too typical of love stories.

Couldn't stop listening!
Revisado: 07-11-06
This book kept me intriqued all the way through. At first I thought it was slow, but then found myself thinking about the characters after I turned it off. It is a little bit of a mystery but more than that it is a story about real people - people you could touch and feel and understand. I highly recommend it. Parts dragged a little, but I found later that even those parts added to the overall story and made the book complete.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

Revisado: 03-20-05
When I read similar customer reviews, I thought this book was too good to be true. I had to try it, and I am so glad I did. It was nearly impossible to put my iPod away and get out of my car when I was wrapped up in the story. Brilliantly written and read by the author - please, give this one a listen. You won't be disappointed.
