Great piece of Literature!
Revisado: 09-30-23
Such a well written novel. Descriptive words and phrases holding true to the “chef” theme intrigued me throughout the entirety of the book. The many underlying conversations kept me wishing I was reading this with others so I could discuss it all! Climate change, the Asian American-woman persona, relationships between friends, employers, lovers, and our earth…all pieces of this novel making it something special. Some people say, “no one can write anything new…all things have been written…authors just have to tell a new story about the same things that have been written.” I truly feel this book is a new and fresh piece of literature. Well done! A great read!

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

This was AWESOME from word #1 until the last! I RARELY say that I’m thankful I listened to the Audible version instead of reading, but this narrator was PERFECT! Loved every minute of this read!

English anthropologist Andrew Bankson has been alone in the field for several years, studying the Kiona river tribe in the territory of New Guinea. Haunted by the memory of his brothers' deaths and increasingly frustrated and isolated by his research, Bankson is on the verge of suicide when a chance encounter with colleagues, the controversial Nell Stone and her wry and mercurial Australian husband, Fen, pulls him back from the brink. Nell and Fen have just fled the bloodthirsty Mumbanyo and, in spite of Nell's poor health, are hungry for a new discovery.

The Grand Hotel is a horror novel by esteemed best-selling author Scott Kenemore ( Zombie, Ohio) that takes the reader on a thrilling ride through an interconnected series of stories narrated by the desk clerk and the residents of the hotel itself. And while it is not known whether or not the desk clerk is actually the devil incarnate, it is strange that so many visitors who come for a tour of the hotel have a way of never leaving.

I enjoyed this entire series so much and I’m sad it’s over. I really hope this one becomes a movie! The conclusion of this book and series was one that left me very satisfied. I had closure, which I feel is so important in a novel of this type. Definitely recommend this book and series!

I love this series!
Revisado: 01-22-23
So many reviews of the first book in this series discussed the narrator’s way of reading caused issue. It was difficult in the very beginning of the first book, but as I kept listening, and sped the reading to 1.3, it was fine! By the time I’d gotten into the first chapter of this book I realized I needed this narrator to be the one reading! I think she did a great job of it. It’s her ability to show the emotions through her voice that really keeps you locked in! The story itself is magnificent. Downloading the third now!

Imagine a London where magic is real...real, but feared. This is Eliza Braxton's London, and she has always accepted her place in it gladly. As one of the Riftborn, her magic has relegated her to the servant class, where she dutifully serves as the lady's maid in one of the most powerful households in the country. There, she uses her remarkable powers of persuasion to keep Elder Hallewell's rebellious daughter in the path to an arranged match of power and prosperity. Eliza has never questioned her loyalty...until now.

Historia
This audiobook is for highly sensitive people who have felt out of place in the modern world. It provides a narrative that describes how they fit into a lineage of creatives throughout history. Jacob Nordby offers a bold new definition of success in the modern era. "The only success now is living and creating a work-of-art life: unique, rich with meaning, naked of anything we don't care about, and ruthless about carving out something absolutely real from a world that has gorged itself on fakeness and become critically ill from it."

Life Changing Weirdness

I’m copying and pasting the text I sent my sister regarding this book, even before I was finished reading it. Please see below as my review:
__________________
Kelly, this book is going to change my life. It already is. I’m on the 16th chapter and cannot wait to get the hard copy here so I can write all in it, read things to Michael, and tell you all the stuff I’ve been thinking. You HAVE HAVE HAVE to listen asap!
Also, ——- is depressed. He’s really struggling with “purpose” (not in the sense of why am I on earth but what am I supposed to be doing) and I think there’s so much of this book that’s going to help him!!! My hard copy should be here today. Just hearing snippets at a time is making me more excited about my life and I’ve been in such a good mood…hopeful even. It’s really great!
_____________
And now, I’ve completed this book and even feel more hopeful about allowing my creative, true, authentic, and weird self to shine.
Thank you, Jacob, for writing this for ME. ❤️
