Saga
Revisado: 01-17-09
I picked this book because it is long and I have enjoyed other books by Follett. This book kept me engaged the entire time. The author weaves a tale spanning several decades that involves many well developed characters as well as a glimpse into the history of big stone churches in England. The intertwining of architecture and power struggles works well in this piece and I would recommend it to anyone.

The United States has repeatedly asserted its right to intervene militarily against "failed states" around the globe. In this much-anticipated sequel to his international best seller Hegemony or Survival, Noam Chomsky turns the tables, charging the United States with being a "failed state", and therefore a danger to its own people and the world.

Yet again Noam Chomsky delivers a book filled with antagonism and a certain kind of logic. It's definitely worth a listen.

Valentino's travels, truly Biblical in scope, bring him in contact with government soldiers, janjaweed-like militias, liberation rebels, hyenas and lions, disease and starvation, and a string of unexpected romances. Ultimately, Valentino finds safety in Kenya and, just after the millennium, is finally resettled in the United States, from where this novel is narrated.

Revisado: 01-17-09
The engaging story told by the author truly defines the meaning of survivor. The harrowing tale of Achak keeps the listener rapt with awe at what he and many others went through and actually survived. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an inspiring tale of loss and survival.

Wine or whine
Revisado: 01-17-09
Anyone interested in the wine industry would find this book interesting. However, the length at which the author goes on and on at times is tedious at best and leaves the listener wondering why certain details made it into the book. I was questioning the editing quite often. It is clear the author did a tremendous amount of research in writing this book and seems to be determined to fit in everything she could just so her research efforts didn't got to waste. Additionally, the book is written chronologically but still manages to skip around through time which breaks up the fluidity that should accompany a book dealing with fine wine production.

Just what we need
Revisado: 01-17-09
Once again Friedman delivers a book packed with detailed information based on research and interviews. His telling of the state of the world should be compelling enough to encourage people to act now to help save our species from destruction. Lets all hope that the green revolution is about to begin. Anyone interested in global politics, "going green" and sustainability should read this book. I found it to be engaging and held my interest for the entire length.

Historia
Darwin's theory of evolution is accepted by most educated Americans as simple fact. This easy acceptance, however, hides from us the many ways in which evolution - as an idea - shapes our thinking about a great many things. What if this idea is wrong? What if "evolution" is just a word that covers up scientific ignorance of how the wonders of the living world could have been created? Berkeley law professor Phillip Johnson looks at the evidence for Darwinistic evolution the way a lawyer would - with a cold dispassionate eye for logic and proof.

Misinformation galore
Revisado: 12-28-07
Readers of this book should be warned that it is full of misinformation and misrepresentations of not only Darwin and evolution, but of the scientific process as a whole. By the end of the book Johnson appears to be discrediting the entire field of scientific research. If you want to better understand the controversies surrounding evolutionary theory there are much better venues to do so. I would suggest the NOVA special regarding the Dover trial of Intelligent Design. It is the most up to date.

What's the point?
Revisado: 11-12-07
I listen to books while working and usually try to find something that will last a while. Because this book is only part of a long series I really really wanted to like this book. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way.
The story is very intricate and I see the length the author went to create this world but I think he forgot to focus on developing the story. There are so many questions left unanswered and so irrelevant things focussed on that by the end of the book I just wanted to chuck my whole ipod in the lake!
I really can't believe I listened to the whole thing.

Historia
This classic statement of economic liberalism or the policy of laissez-faire was first published in 1776. It is an engrossing analysis of the economic facts of life. Several fundamental principles, many of which are now referred to as axioms, were introduced in this work, the division of labor, supply-and-demand, and free market capitalism being among the most obvious.

Historia
In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

Over the top description of college life
Revisado: 01-03-05
Tom Wolfe goes way over the top in his ultra stereotypical descriptions of characters. The stupid jock, the nerdy brains, the clueless, snobby rich girls. After a while it gets a little hard to take. The college life of these students is hard to believe has well. It's a long book filled with one sterotype after another, I just couldn't take it after about the first quarter of the book.
