Suspensful yet predictable. Relatable for those that are impacted by domestic abuse.
Revisado: 02-20-24
I really liked the entire book. Well read. Well written and flows nicely. Some things could be triggering for those impacted by domestic situations. I love that the abuser ends up actually paying for his crimes in the end, unlike most in real life.

Historia
From the age of 14, Caitlin was completely controlled, repeatedly raped, provided with alcohol, given drugs, sold and passed on to new gangs over and over again. The majority of her abusers were Pakistani men, who were blatant in their attacks upon her, often collecting her from school or home, to be taken to flats they owned, family homes, or hotels booked for the day, to be horrifically and systematically abused.

Historia
Caroline Overington's stunning fiction debut is a multi-voiced novel centred around a child's death and its terrible repercussions. In 1982 Victorian police were called to a home on a housing estate an hour west of Melbourne. There, they found a five-year-old boy lying still and silent on the carpet. There were no obvious signs of trauma, but the child, Jacob, died the next day. The story made the headlines, and hundreds attended the funeral. Few people were surprised when the boy's mother and her boyfriend went to prison for the crime.

Could be triggering
Revisado: 12-15-21
This is an excellent book. Well read, well written with so much emotion and just enough detail to bring you in. This could be a book that is triggering to those that have endured any of the abusive behaviors and the resulting behaviors of this abuse.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. The narration and story were perfect. I simultaneously laughed and cried several times throughout the book, and felt connected to many characters and situations as the story progressed. I enjoyed this one more than most I have read recently.

I love Marguerite Gavins work. It took me a little bit to adjust to the the narration, but once I did, I was able to settle in for a really enjoyable storyline and great performance.

Excellent all around
Revisado: 04-08-20
I loved everything about this. Normally I'm mostly disappointed in documentaries, especially from the free "Originals" list. I have to say, as a mother, as a sister, as a person who sees addiction daily, this not only hit home, it stirred emotion that I've pushed down for years. Overall, great listen. Great work! Sadly this is a book about too many of our lives!

I really loved this whole book. I watched the movie first, so I thought I would be in for a narrated re-run with more detail. I think I actually love the book more! Very much different from the movie. You won't be disappointed in the story line, or the narration.
