Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 01-20-25
Obviously very well read. I had read the book was originally banned in some countries. For brevity reasons I won’t go into, however, I don’t subscribe. I found the characters stories sad and Huxley’s view on humanities future accurate. There are so many parallels drawn in today’s society. It’s well worth the read as it provokes one to think.

Renowned as much for her wit and satirical social commentary as for her stories of love and romance, Jane Austen remains unfailingly relevant and one of Britain’s best loved authors. In this Audible Original collection, an all-star list of narrators (Billie Piper, Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, Florence Pugh and Gugu Mbatha-Raw) capture Austen’s pin-sharp humour and tone in these dramatisations of her six beloved novels accompanied by a full cast.

Predicable & cliche fairytales
Revisado: 01-15-25
My friend is a huge Austin fan and has been at me to read her books and immerse myself in her talent.
So I listened to the whole collection. There were times I was so bored with the predictability of the plot which never changes.
Most times I though kill me, kill me know. But I’d persevere. I felt like a weight had been lifted once it was complete. I am sorry but I can’t see the fascination in long conversations that differ little from book to book, that’s the themes and plots are the same. It’s like reading Cinderella.
The performances were wonderful.

Historia
Did you know there is an area of your brain known as the "Lizard Brain" that thinks only about the immediate moment and your means of survival? Yes, in certain circumstances, your "Rational Brain" can effectively "shut down" and you are at the mercy of a reptile... dry-mouthed, sweating, queasy, unable to think clearly - even though you know better. When does the Lizard Brain run the show? It can happen in any number of unfamiliar, uncomfortable, challenging, or "stressful" riding situations. But here's the thing: with the right kind of training, you can learn to manage the reptile within.

Not just for competitive riders
Revisado: 07-27-24
I liked the tempo of the reader. I’m not a competitive rider and I consider myself a a L rider. I had a lot of ah ha moments listening to this book. Particularly in relation to dealing with fear. It also helped me normalise the thoughts & feelings I’ve had & have. I’ve got some great strategies from listening and will listen again to take notes. I recommend this to anybody wanting to improve their horsemanship & riding skills.

Historia
In this illuminating book, brain scientist and horsewoman Janet Jones describes human and equine brains working together. Using plain language, she explores the differences and similarities between equine and human ways of negotiating the world. Mental abilities—like seeing, learning, fearing, trusting, and focusing—are discussed from both human and horse perspectives. Throughout, true stories of horses and handlers attempting to understand each other—sometimes successfully, sometimes not—help to illustrate the principles.

A must read.
Revisado: 06-14-23
Understanding brain function as explained by Jones makes learning easy and accessible. I had many moments where I thought; so that’s why certain things took place or happening now. I have a better way of thinking about how to help my horse understand because I have a better understanding of how my human brain functions in comparison.
I enjoyed it so much I will but the hard copy.

This is the disturbing tale of the dual personality of Dr. Jekyll, a physician. A generous and philanthropic man, he is preoccupied with the problems of good and evil and with the possibility of separating them into distinct personalities. He develops a drug that transforms him into the demonic Mr. Hyde, in whose person he exhausts all the latent evil in his nature.

Nothing like the internal struggles of self
Revisado: 04-07-23
The narration was perfect, I was transported back in time. Stevenson was a marvelous storyteller and Jarvis gave a believable performance. It left me feeling a little sad. The letter at the end, the confession I could not stop listening, Jekyll’s confession is what made this a rather sad story.
I’ll probably listen to it again in the future.

Historia
Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life; indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence. The novel was a succès de scandale, and the book was later used as evidence against Wilde at the Old Bailey in 1895. It has lost none of its power to fascinate and disturb.

Historia
John Saint Ryan has traveled the world working with horses. His behavior with all students—whether equine or human—aligns with his principles, a rare and admirable practice. He shares his knowledge with agility, openness, humor, and grace, often in a poetic manner. This audiobook is a joy to listen to, as you’ll discover John's love and humility when he describes the lessons his mentor, Tom Dorrance, helped him learn. His humor shines through as he recounts horse stories from earlier days.

Revisado: 02-10-23
This is a great book for those that want to have a better understanding of horses and how to understand their thinking process and how to train and ride with this in mind. It’s a good start to the science behind training.
Easy to listen to and I enjoyed the conversations with Tom.

Historia
In the wake of World War II, as turmoil and chaos were giving way to optimism, Americans were looking for inspiration and role models showing that it was possible to start from the bottom and work your way up to the top—and they found it in Stymie, the failed racehorse plucked from the discard heap by trainer Hirsch Jacobs. Taking listeners on a crowd-pleasing ride with Stymie and Jacobs, Out of the Clouds unwinds a real-life Horatio Alger tale of a dauntless team and its working-class fans who lived vicariously through the stouthearted little colt they embraced as their own.

What a story
Revisado: 01-08-23
Even if you know or care little for horse racing this story is one that should be heard. The people of the time period are exceptional people with a colorful life. It’s the story of those that have ever struggled or been told they aren’t good enough. I’d love to see this made into a movie.
