Historia
When German bombs set London ablaze, BBC radio correspondent Hugh Collingwood reports on the Blitz, eager to boost morale while walking the fine line between truth and censorship. But the Germans are not the only ones Londoners have to fear as a series of murders flame up amid the ashes. The deaths hit close to home for Hugh, and Aleida needs his help to locate her missing son. As they work together, they grow closer and closer, both to each other and the answers they seek. But with bombs falling and continued killings, they may be running out of time.

Lack of character development
Revisado: 07-20-24
I couldn’t believe in the female protagonist. I thought she was developing self reliance and maturity only to watch her fold up like a fan. The last quarter of the book was unbearable because of it.

It’s fantastic to listen to a well read story that was carefully written and edited. The setting is gorgeous, the characters well developed, and the story interesting.

Historia
In the last years of the dying Qing Empire, a courtesan is found frozen in a doorway. Bao, a detective with an uncanny ability to sniff out the truth, is hired to uncover the dead woman’s identity. Since childhood, Bao has been intrigued by the fox gods, yet they’ve remained tantalizingly out of reach—until, perhaps, now.

Brilliant storyteller!
Revisado: 02-16-24
The author has a magical way of creating female protagonists that deeply engage the reader—they are clever, insightful, and compassionate and human even when they are not. Embed them in an excellent story with perfect narration…what could be better?

Historia
Gods are forbidden in the kingdom of Middren. Formed by human desires and fed by their worship, there are countless gods in the world—but after a great war, the new king outlawed them and now pays “godkillers” to destroy any who try to rise from the shadows. As a child, Kissen saw her family murdered by a fire god. Now, she makes a living killing them and enjoys it. But all this changes when Kissen is tasked with helping a young noble girl with a god problem. The child’s soul is bonded to a tiny god of white lies, and Kissen can’t kill it without ending the girl’s life too.

Best adventure of 2023
Revisado: 01-16-24
These were characters I really enjoyed. They were richly drawn and developed naturally, strengthened by their adventures and relationships. The god problems were an excellent challenge, not simple or predictable. I thought the narrator did a great job giving voice to the characters and listening was a pleasure. Yes, I heard occasional breathlessness, but the narration was not lightweight or breathy. I sincerely hope the next book has the same narrator.

Historia
It has been an eventful morning for Agnes Sharp and the other inhabitants of Sunset Hall, a house share for the old and unruly in the sleepy English countryside. Although they have had some issues (misplaced reading glasses, conflicting culinary tastes, decreasing mobility, and unruly grandsons), nothing prepares them for an unexpected visit from a police officer with some shocking news. A body has been discovered next door. Everyone puts on a long face for show, but they are secretly relieved the body in question is not the one they’re currently hiding in the shed (sorry, Lillith).

Excellent narration

Interesting mystery, likeable characters and a fine tortoise. Narration was excellent. The dementia-like meanderings of two of the main characters was sometimes a bit much.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Great prequel. Delighted to have the story stretch into the past since it’s a pleasure to spend any time at all in the company of this author’s characters. His narration is warm and transporting. A balm.

Unfortunate lack of development
Revisado: 10-14-23
Although the story is structured to illustrate great personal change, the characters and their relationships didn’t seem to mature. This might be due in part to the narrator whose reading of the main character made her sound childish from beginning to end. The lack of depth made it a bit boring despite several good ingredients.

Great action story with excellent narrator
Revisado: 09-02-23
Somehow the author of this superhero story has made the characters, and their dialogue, more real than those in non-sci-fi novels. Fun and engaging with great narration. And I do love an author whose character can say the work “butch” with all the affection it deserves!

Loved the narrator!!!
Revisado: 07-17-23
The narrator’s voice for this production is the smoky, firm, quiet voice that is perfect for the protagonist.
The story is so well grounded in the place that I swear I could find my way from town to town and I’d recognize the scenery. If you weren’t there in this moment of history, you could walk away from this story with a feel for it, as well as empathy and respect for the Indian children and their families who were forcibly separated from each other.
