A mild-mannered professor from Chicago, Dodd brings along his wife, son, and flamboyant daughter, Martha. At first Martha is entranced by the parties and pomp, and the handsome young men of the Third Reich with their infectious enthusiasm for restoring Germany to a position of world prominence. Enamored of the “New Germany,” she has one affair after another....

LOVED IT
Revisado: 09-09-24
I absolutely loved this book. I wish it had a sequel, even though the Dodd's story is complete. Maybe I just wish Larson would take on even more stories of Germany. Hitler's regime took on a unique lifeform in this setting. I appreciate a new story on Nazi Germany from a unique perspective not usually heard.
I also found the book and narrator to mesh together nicely. This narrator is now I've of my new favorites!

To her millions of fans Molly Ringwald will forever be 16. As the endearing and witty star of the beloved John Hughes classics Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Pretty in Pink, Molly defined teenage angst, love, and heartbreak. While remembered eternally as the enviable high school princess Claire, or the shyly vulnerable Samantha, Molly is now a wife and mother, and just celebrated her 40th birthday.

So disappointing
Revisado: 08-09-24
Sometimes celebrities you think you love are better when you just don't know who they really are. I've loved her movies for as long as I can remember. I thought her snarky, sarcastic tone was because that was just a teenage character. Now I'm left wondering if Molly Ringwald could ever act, or if she was just playing herself.
This book is often times whiney and all times boring. I'm sad to say that while short, this book is a terrible waste of time. I did, however, give her two stars for at least reading it herself, for better or worse.

Great Approach
Revisado: 04-19-24
I love the author's approach to this topic. He asks questions for you to decide if each different idea applies to you or your family member. Not all do, and some will take you by surprise. I found this book to be an exceptional part of my healing process.

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate. I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Fun
Revisado: 06-02-23
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I did find some parts of the mystery to be hard to follow, but luckily I kept going forward and was able to piece it together enough to get back in. That being said, I do feel at the end I know mostly what happened.
I do love the dark humor mixed in.

Join Clara Parkes on a cross-country adventure and meet a cast of characters that includes the shepherds, dyers, and countless workers without whom our knitting needles would be empty, our mills idle, and our feet woefully cold. Travel the country with her as she meets a flock of Saxon Merino sheep in upstate New York, tours a scouring plant in Texas, visits a steamy Maine dyehouse, helps sort freshly shorn wool on a working farm, and learns how wool fleece is measured, baled, shipped, and turned into skeins.

Somehow, the story wasn't what I was expecting
Revisado: 03-07-22
I grew up showing sheep and lived on a farm where my family raised sheep. For some reason, when I first read the description, I thought I was getting a book about a woman who started a successful sheep business.
However, this book isn't about that at all. This is a book about wool. The only places she talks about sheep are when it comes to using them for wool.
I would definitely recommend this book for knitters, as the author is one. This entire venture was in pursuit of learning about wool and emerging herself into the entire process of making wool yarn.
I really tried but didn't enjoy this book. But I give it 4 stars because I think if you read the book for what it's actually about, you'd enjoy it. I would like to say there was a bit of the story about the adventures of the author opening a bale of wool that was entertaining.

Fantastic jumpstart for your personal journey
Revisado: 02-07-22
I loved this book and her fresh perspective on so many parts of everyday life. I saw the title and worried just a little bit that this might be one of those authors who is going to cuss me out the whole book - not at all. This is just what I needed to get me out of the COVID-era funk I was in. I don't know that it was depression, but I had lost interest in most things and was just floating and going through the motions. Pair that along with my learning my mom has been a narcissist my whole life and controlling me for 35 years. This book was actually pretty perfect for getting me out of that dark place and helping me find "me" again. No, I'm not magically or completely fixed, BUT this book was an amazing jumpstart to get me feeling alive again and ready for the next step.
This book was jam packed with so much great info and many pearls of wisdom that I actually think I would benefit from listening to it again. I highly recommend this book, and I'm excited to see what other works the author has that I can utilize.

Historia
In A Royal Duty, Paul Burrell reveals the truth about Princess Diana, as well as a faithful account of her thoughts. He was the favourite footman who formed a unique relationship with the Queen. He was the butler who the Princess of Wales called "my rock" and "the only man I can trust". He was accused of theft, then acquitted following the historic intervention of the monarch. He was the Princess' most intimate confidant.

Interesting approach and a great story
Revisado: 12-09-17
This was an interesting Approach by the author who told her story by telling his own story. In a way it's actually genius because telling his own story is something that really can't be refuted as much as trying to tell the story of Diana herself. I actually really enjoyed this book and it gave me a whole new perspective on the Spencer family. I had heard similar stories from others, but here you see just how far they would go to capitalize on their daughter's life. It also gave me more respect than I expected to find for the Royal family.

Oklahomans have long been known for their fatalism and grit, but even old-timers are troubled by the twisters that are devastating the state with increasing frequency. On May 20, 2013, the worst tornado on record landed a direct hit on the small town of Moore, destroying two schools while the children cowered inside.

I was hooked the whole time
Revisado: 06-25-17
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book and could see myself listening to it again. My mom joined me in the car one day, and I couldn't wait to hear what was going to happen to the characters next so I asked if she'd like to listen. She was sad she wouldn't get to hear the rest of it!
I enjoyed the surprise of getting to hear about the history of weather forecasting in addition to stories from the tornado. Being an Oklahoman, I'm familiar with the weathermen mentioned and found their stories interesting. But I also enjoyed the stories of the people who lived through the storm.
I do wish the author had broken the stories up a little bit more in timeline form. I did find it mildly emotionally exhausting to relive the tornado over and over again, and I had trouble figuring out what was happening at what time in relation to everything else. My mom and I (even in the short time she listened to it) found it really annoying how frequently the author uses the word "tiny" to describe things. Every town to her that isn't Oklahoma City is a "tiny town". This was really annoying because the towns she described as tiny really aren't that tiny at all, and it makes me wonder what word she'd use to describe the smaller ones. Probably "tiny" because it's her word of choice.
All that being said, once I was able to get over the author using several words repeatedly, the story was very fascinating, and I was hooked the entire time.
