Historia
In this “rich, complex family saga” (USA Today) full of long-buried family secrets, Marilyn Connolly and David Sorenson fall in love in the 1970s, blithely ignorant of all that awaits them. By 2016, they have four radically different daughters, each in a state of unrest.

Unlike able characters, gratuitous foul language, too much details about sex
Revisado: 02-25-20
I listened to this book because it was a book club selection. I hated it so much that I may drop out of the club. ( just my second book in the club). Really, I found nothing redeeming about this book. I really tired of listening to the tales of this dysfunctional family . Don’t waste your time. Life is too short to read bad books

In the chaotic last days of the war, a small troop of battle-weary American soldiers captures a German spy and makes an astonishing find - his briefcase is empty but for photos of beautiful white horses that have been stolen and kept on a secret farm behind enemy lines. Hitler has stockpiled the world's finest purebreds in order to breed the perfect military machine - an equine master race. But with the starving Russian army closing in, the animals are in imminent danger of being slaughtered for food.

Good history/horse story
Revisado: 04-24-17
Where does The Perfect Horse rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Gee, I've listened to so many over the years! This book is definitely in my top 20% and since I rarely listen to history books, I'd rate it as in the top 10% among nonfiction books.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Perfect Horse?
The race in the middle of the night, with Lessing and Stewart one on a black and one white horse was described perfectly.
Which scene was your favorite?
As a horse person, I really enjoyed several of the descriptions of being around horses. There was one description about Hank Reed's familiarity of those things any horse person knows - the rhythm of a horse's gait, the scent of fresh straw and "what the end of a day on horseback felt like, salty with sweat, dirt under his nails, and a mind white-washed on worry".
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I am always drawn to people who understand that the animals of this world are worth saving.
Any additional comments?
This is an excellent book for horse lovers who are not regular history readers. Instead of just dates and battles, Letts educates her readers about the people and places in this book. Not as good as In the Company of Elephants, but still quite good.

Historia
At the onset of World War II, Williams formed Elephant Company and was instrumental in defeating the Japanese in Burma and saving refugees, including on his own "Hannibal Trek." Billy Williams became a media sensation during the war, telling reporters that the elephants did more for him than he was ever able to do for them, but his story has since been forgotten.

A wonderful story for history and animal buffs
Revisado: 07-11-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Elephant Company to be better than the print version?
I doubt I would have read the print version because I don't usually go for nonfiction. Now, after listening to the book , I want to find a print version for my personal library.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked learning about this time in history and, as an animal lover, I enjoyed learning about elephants.
Any additional comments?
I think I bought this book on sale and it turned out to be one of my favorites this year. It's a good book for family road trips - with kids10 and up.

Don't think the movie is the same as the book!
Revisado: 07-11-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I read this book as a child because I loved horses. I re-read it as an adult for the same reason, but I thought the movie was off. I was correct. As usual, the book is so very much better.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course Joey, the horse is my favorite character. Through his innocent, but not dumb eyes, he tells the stories of war, friendship, love & struggles. Yet I loved Albert, his first owner and Topthorn, his equine buddy. The relationships and observations are adult & real. I don't know why I always thought this was a children's story.
What does John Keating bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The reader was excellent. He added, not detracted from a beautiful story.
Any additional comments?
I'm not a real history fan, but I like historical fiction. This book is about the horrors of WWI. Graphic enough to be compelling, but not overly so. And it has a happy ending - the best part! I encourage you to listen to this book with your horse loving child or grandchild - or by yourself.

An OK story, fun for Bama folks but...

The story was ok, probably better if the reader had known how to pronounce certain words - like interrogatories! It is a "legal thriller".

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

It seems that I should have read A Prayer for Owen M. In school, but somehow I missed it. I encourage everyone to listen to this American Classic. The story is almost a thriller. It's funny & smart. The reader does an excellent job with "the Voice". Definitely 5 stars!!

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

If you hated Gone Girl, you'll hate this too!
Revisado: 06-24-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The Audible production, reader, etc was great - as usual. I just hated the story. I am no prude, but this and Gone Girl just have no redeeming literary or entertainment qualities. I only listened trying to stay "up" on the latest books. Don't bother.
Would you ever listen to anything by Paula Hawkins again?
Doubtful
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
none of them. They were all selfish, immature, despicable people. I hope there are not really this many bad people in this world
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disgust
Any additional comments?
I need to stick to spy mysteries and classics.
