Agatha Award-winning author Rhys Bowen’s charming combination of intrigue and romance blended with a touch of humor shines when performed by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Katherine Kellgren, whose deft range and impeccable accent work make it hard to believe this isn’t a multicast performance.

I was surprised and delighted
Revisado: 11-21-13
Frankly, I bought this book because it was the "daily deal," but what a nice surprise!! It's more of a fun, light read and I love the setting being in 1930's England. Usually, I go for the darker, heavier detective series, but this was delightful little gem to take a break with. This is the very reason I love Audible's Daily Deal. It allows people, like me, to take a chance on a new author without worrying about wasting a credit or spending a lot of money and sometimes you find a great new author and a little jewel!! The narrator does a wonderful job with the different characters sounding so differently.

Historia
In this long-awaited prequel to his New York Times bestselling series, Jefferson Bass turns the clock back to reveal the Body Farm's creation - and Dr. Bill Brockton's deadly duel with a serial killer. In the summer of 1992, Arkansas governor Bill Clinton and Tennessee senator Al Gore begin their long-shot campaign to win the White House. On a sweltering hillside in Knoxville, Dr. Bill Brockton, the bright, ambitious young head of the University of Tennessee's Anthropology Department, launches an unusual - some would call it macabre - research facility, unlike any other in existence.

So far, always worth waiting for!!
Revisado: 11-21-13
I just love these books and I've not been disappointed in any. I believe this is the best one to date. Dr. Brockton doesn't have fancy airplanes to whisk him anywhere and there is not one computer hacker in sight. No, he just uses good old-fashioned forensic science, detective work and common sense. You will be caught up into this series from the minute you read your first book. Can't wait for a new one to come out and the narrator does an excellent job.

Riveting story regardless of author OR narrator
Revisado: 11-19-13
As I said, this is a riveting story regardless of who writes or performs it, but another author and narrator could have done a much better job. I would not have used a precious credit for it, however. The narrator is almost the worst I've ever listened to. Frankly, I think it's a combination of the writing and the performance that turned me off. As it is, I'm pushing it giving it a 3 star rating. Sorry, I was hoping I had found a new author to read, but Ann Rule, she ain't.

Historia
Determined to find out what happened to her former deputy chief, Jack Fielding, murdered six months earlier, Kay Scarpetta travels to the Georgia Prison for Women, where an inmate has information not only on Fielding, but also on a string of grisly killings. The murder of an Atlanta family years ago, a young woman on death row, and the inexplicable deaths of homeless people as far away as California seem unrelated. But Scarpetta discovers connections that compel her to conclude that what she thought ended with Fielding's death and an attempt on her own life is only the beginning....

Finally a good book from Cornwell
Revisado: 09-22-13
At last Cornwell seems to be getting back to writing decent Scarpetta books after a series of almost unreadable ones. I'm glad I gave her one more chance because I was close to ignoring her completely, having gotten so tired of hearing about Lucy and Lucy's love-life, Moreno's almost obsession with Scarpetta, and she and Benton's problems. Please stay with the crime aspect and keep leaving the other to a minimum.

Very satisfying!! A great read!!
Revisado: 11-18-11
GREAT!! I don't understand the negative reviews of this book.. It is a great "stand-alone" novel but even better if you read the companion novel "The Gold Coast" first!! I didn't find the explanatory parts of the book over long at all.. A different novel by Nelson Demille and it is good enough to be a classic and the narration could not be better!! Cudos to Mr. DeMille and Mr. Rummel!!!!

Welcome to the fabled Gold Coast, that stretch on the North Shore of Long Island that once held the greatest concentration of wealth and power in America. Here two men are destined for an explosive collision: John Sutter, Wall Street lawyer, holding fast to a fading aristocratic legacy; and Frank Bellarosa, the Mafia don who seizes his piece of the staid and unprepared Gold Coast like a latter-day barbarian chief and draws Sutter and his regally beautiful wife, Susan, into his violent world.

I loved it!!
Revisado: 10-19-11
This is not like the novels that DeMille usually does but it is really very good, and the performance of Christian Rummel is spot on.. I try to review each book I buy from Audible because I depend on reviews, myself, when choosing a book to purchase.. My credits are dear to me.. LOL Because of the reviews of the follow-up novel, "The Gate House," I will not be getting it and perhaps this is one of those times when a sequel shouldn't have been written.. "Gold Coast" is a great novel on it's on, and like other greats books who have tried "sequels", such as "Gone With the Wind," I guess "The Gate House" is rather "anticlimatic," repetitious and downright "silly" at times, according to the reviews. That being the case, enjoy "Gold Coast," because it is a great listen!!

Revisado: 10-19-11
I guess at one time or another everyone has read "David Copperfield" but you must listen to this version.. I simply cannot say enough about the masterful performance of Martis Javis!! Each character is distinct and wonderfully portrayed and the words fall soothingly on your ears.. I could not have enjoyed it more if I had been watching it played out before me.. We all know the genius of Charles Dickens and because of the performance of Martin Javis, I will be listening to the other works of Dickens as narrated by Martin Javis.. Thank you Audible!!

Great book but very poor narration ....
Revisado: 09-18-11
I love Tom Clancy but this book was the first I had listened to with this narrator and I really wanted to give him a chance because, in truth, I had read all the negative reviews about him... However, I hate to admit it, but they are true and I doubt I will ever listen to another book by Clancy with this narrator.. If you have Kindle and have listened to "text to speech," this is how it sounds.. So sorry.

Another great book from DeMille but....
Revisado: 08-02-11
I love Nelson DeMille's novels and this one is another good one.. But, I think I need to warn you, be prepared to not be very fond of the "hero" in this book... It's a different sort of DeMille book in that way.. I came of age during the Vietnam War and so I loved all the details in this novel, and except for the point mentioned above I loved the book and as usual, the Scott Brick narration was terrific... I sure hope Scott gets paid enough for what he does because, as far as I'm concerned, he is the BEST!!
