Historia
This book covers bitcoin’s blocksize war, which was waged from August 2015 to November 2017. On the surface, the battle was about the amount of data allowed in each bitcoin block, however it exposed much deeper issues, such as who controls bitcoin’s protocol rules. It is not possible to cover every twist and turn in the labyrinthine conflict or all the arguments, but I have provided a chronology of the most significant events. This book explores some of the major characters in the conflict and includes coverage, from both the front lines and behind the scenes.

Very dense but a good account

Some knowledge of the internal workings of blockchains, Bitcoin and the issues are a must. The book is dense with details, but is thorough and well done.

Historia
Once one of Silicon Valley’s greatest success stories, Facebook has been under constant fire for the past five years, roiled by controversies and crises. It turns out that while the tech giant was connecting the world, they were also mishandling users’ data, spreading fake news, and amplifying dangerous, polarizing hate speech.

Fully digs into the misdeeds and selfishness of a monopoly. It puts into perspective the nonstop spin and lies that justifies their actions and failings. The book presents evidence why serious regulation is needed.

Historia
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, a diverse group of teachers and students working together on academic computing systems conducted many of the activities we now recognize as personal and social computing. Joy Rankin draws on detailed records to explore how users exchanged messages, programmed music and poems, fostered communities, and developed computer games like The Oregon Trail. These unsung pioneers helped shape our digital world, just as much as the inventors, garage hobbyists, and eccentric billionaires of Palo Alto.

Mostly about gender bias in computing
Revisado: 05-28-21
This book is a real disappointment. While it has a historical underpinning, the book incessantly harps on about gender, the masculinity of computing along with racial imbalance. The book has repetitive references to it. I gave up a few chapters in - it was intolerable. I can’t help wonder whether the author has a chip on their shoulder.

Historia
Stung by the pioneering space successes of the Soviet Union - in particular, Gagarin being the first man in space - the United States gathered the best of its engineers and set itself the goal of reaching the moon within a decade. In an expanded second edition of How Apollo Flew to the Moon, David Woods tells the exciting story of how the resulting Apollo flights were conducted by following a virtual flight to the moon and its exploration of the surface.

Historia
Apollo is the behind-the-scenes story of an epic achievement. Based on exhaustive research that included many exclusive interviews, Apollo tells how America went from a standing start to a landing on the moon at a speed that now seems impossible. It describes the unprecedented engineering challenges that had to be overcome to create the mammoth Saturn V and the facilities to launch it. It takes you into the tragedy of the fire on Apollo 1, the first descent to the lunar surface, and the rescue of Apollo 13.

Historia
A compelling look inside the Space Shuttle missions that helped lay the groundwork for the Space Age, Shuttle, Houston explores the determined personalities, technological miracles, and 11th-hour saves that have given us human spaceflight. Relaying stories of missions (and their grueling training) in vivid detail, Paul Dye, NASA's longest-serving flight director, examines the split-second decisions that the directors and astronauts were forced to make in a field where mistakes are unthinkable and errors led to the loss of national resources - and more importantly one's crew.

I thoroughly insightful view in mission control for the shuttle. This book mixes just the right about of theory with explanations and real world stories from the author's career. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a very long time.

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Overproduced
Revisado: 09-02-19
I couldn't figure out whether this was trying to be a serious audiobook or a podcast / TV infotainment episode. It is trying to cover what is an interesting story, yet it's completely overproduced with musical interludes, sound effects, audio snippits and the like. I found that made it impossible to concentrate on the underlaying story or to take it seriously. The telling of the story kept making unnecessary detours into unrelated aspects of the subject's life on the pretext of describing the life and times - most of it being "artistic license". I'm unsure whether these embellishments were to pad the length, "romanticise" it, or an attempt to make it more accessible to less technical audiences. Despite the length and my love for long form audiobooks, I gave up on it part way through.

Historia
In Banking Bad, Adele Ferguson traces the origins of the banking scandal to the early 1990s, when buckets of money began pouring into compulsory superannuation funds, set up by Labor Treasurer Paul Keating. Attracted by the increasing cash, banks devised corrupt and questionable practices to get their hands on funds, along with aggressive selling practices that ignored due diligence, trust and honesty.

A brilliant book that delivers insightful details of the major stories and events of his career. The content can be challenging but re-enforces the reason to be thankful we have quality journalists like this witnessing and reporting on so many important events in the world, but spare us from being exposed to the horrors and dangers.
His style is calm, balanced and truly professional. If only we had more people like him.
