Historia
Grace isn’t exactly thrilled when her newly widowed mother, Jackie, asks to move in with her. They’ve never had a great relationship, and Grace likes her space—especially now that she’s stuck at home during a pandemic. Then again, she needs help with the mortgage after losing her job. And maybe it’ll be a chance for them to bond—or at least give each other a hand. But living with Mother isn’t for everyone. Good intentions turn bad soon after Jackie moves in. Old wounds fester; new ones open.

I liked it but...
Revisado: 11-10-23
I loved it halfway through, and then I felt it got a bit long until the end. I agree, thank goodness for the epilog! Not exactly sure how I feel about it though. if this was a storyline from Supernatural, it would be great, but without that frame of mind, not sure.

I found this book simply fascinating!
Revisado: 10-18-23
I do worry about shaming if someone doesn't take the actionable. I also wonder about the coming disparity between those who can do this and the folks who cannot even go to any doctor.
Still, the fact that our medicines are so bad, I think we HAVE to go with this idea.
I have a genetic disease and got a specific test, so not really what they are talking about, but it is sure right that many doctors don't want to talk about those tests.

Historia
Sixty-eight percent of Americans have dieted at some point in their lives. But upwards of 90 percent of people who intentionally lose weight gain it back within five years. And as many as 66 percent of people who embark on weight-loss efforts end up gaining more weight than they lost. If dieting is so clearly ineffective, why are we so obsessed with it? The culprit is diet culture, a system of beliefs that equates thinness to health and moral virtue, promotes weight loss as a means of attaining higher status, and demonizes certain ways of eating while elevating others.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries - reading about the remarkable lives of global leaders, Hollywood heavyweights, and innovators who changed the world. But not every notable life has gotten the send-off it deserves. His quest to right that wrong inspired Mobituaries, his number one hit podcast. Now with Mobituaries, the audiobook, he has gone much further, with all new essays on artists, entertainers, sports stars, political pioneers, founding fathers, and more. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter...until now.

As a Book Club Book I was willing to give anything a try, but I was a bit leary of it too. It didn't take long however till I listened with great enthusiasm and was awarded with still smiling at the end.

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Not the book I thought it would be.
Revisado: 05-24-16
I thought it would be religion religion religion, with God-Talk in a way I find unappealing, but it could not be farther from that. Though his faith must be profound, he talks simply about a way to treat others and how to look at ourselves and encourages the reader/listener to examine our perceptions and actions that I appreciated profoundly. Without a doubt also, he is a good story teller and has rich material with which to tell his story. I will definitely be listening to this again.
