Historia
Tenley Roth's first book was a runaway best seller. Now that her second book is due, she's locked in fear. Can she repeat her earlier success, or is she a fraud who has run out of inspiration? A century earlier, another woman wrote at the same desk with hopes and fears of her own. Birdie Shehorn is the daughter of the old-money Knickerbockers. Under the strict control of her mother, her every move is decided ahead of time, even whom she'll marry. Tenley and Birdie are from two very different worlds, but fate has bound them together.

Good story, good writing
Revisado: 12-05-20
I really did enjoy this book. The story was an engaging and complicated intertwining of times..ages if you will. The ending was perfect, the thread of events wonderfully unpredictable.
The narration did keep jarring me out of being engrossed in the tale as it was told. I was called upon to discern who was speaking, which I found distracting...very minor changes in tone from one character to another, but the written dialogue did help clear that up....however it was not “my job” to have to do that. The mispronunciation of Marquis, (“markwiss”) etc. kind of ticked me off since the producer, author AND narrator never bothered to look up the pronunciation (and it really isn’t a “rare” word, it is actually “markee”.
So 5 stars for the story, well done. Suggestion for producer and narrator? Well, the tracks were free of distraction, but the narrator needs more professional coaching.

Unexpected, captivating
Revisado: 03-11-20
Of all places to find a home...the moon. An adventure, an escape from authorities, a world on the brink of being completely overtaken, and only one place left to find a home. Throw in kidnapping, treachery, deceit, and a mix of characters and you have a very good book. Nina Price narrated this gem, and brought it to life. Well done.

How far would you go to protect a loved one? Would you tamper with evidence? Commit arson? Allow a prime suspect to remain at large? Pegasus Quincy and her former partner, Shepherd Malone, have some difficult choices ahead when Shep’s daughter is caught with a murder weapon in her hand. It doesn’t help when the detective on the case has problems of his own. When he applies to the sheriff’s department, he conveniently forgets to mention that he was terminated from his previous position under a cloud of fraud.

A Great Listen!
Revisado: 03-11-20
Captivating in an unusual way...a grumpy transplanted Sheriff with a past of some kind, a Sheriff Liaison (aka Family Counselor), a sassy, kinda bratty Goth Girl with an attitude, a dead body and loads of suspects, but police focussing only on one...Sassy and Bratty and Contrarian. Can our heroine and friend of the Brat's father redirect the focus to the real culprit? Good read, well narrated. Enjoyed it.

Good writing
Revisado: 08-09-19
Woman becomes paranoid that someone is trying to steal her baby after overhearing something on her baby monitor. Loving but often absent husband. Off putting neighbors.
The author has a wonderful command of language and story structure overall. But the prep for the drama takes, in my opinion, far too long. The set up for the ancillary story lines don’t seem to contribute to the plot development until about chapter 30.
I did enjoy it but found myself getting impatient with the primary character, like “get on with it, get over it, and often “really?!” reactions.
The narrator did a top notch job and made me want to continue when I wanted to put it down and move on. 5 stars there!

I cannot finish this
Revisado: 05-27-19
I actually like the book, I wish I had purchased the Kindle copy rather than the Audible one because the story is intriguing.. I have read the reviews of this narrator, and she is prolific, popular, well received, and all the other good things a narrator should be...but I cannot finish listening to this book. She takes a sharp air intake gasp at the beginning and end of every single sentence, and often single words, very very distracting.
The tone and tempo are, well, difficult to ignore as each sentence goes up and then down, then up and then down, over, and over. Oh well, not everyone's cup of tea, at least not mine.
She does do the high society British accent well, and does effect variation between the characters, and those are to her credit.

Sit back, it's a long one
Revisado: 05-27-19
It does go on and on, centuries actually. Imaginative, but I presume with myth and magic, historical accuracy is an impossibility, especially since it is based entirely upon the author's imagination, with a nod toward the names of the Gods as passed down and a periodic resemblance to the myths.
It was good, in many ways, but I was ready for the end.

I enjoyed this book much more than I had thought I might. It was extremely well written, well narrated, informative, intelligent, and educational. Realistic without any apologies and a level of acceptance of their lives in this country and under our political system without any rancor or finger pointing. Cannot praise highly enough.

Wondrous depiction of a reality I cannot know
Revisado: 04-24-19
Beautifully written, words and phrases that captured both the moment and feeling and my imagination. Rivals Barbara Kingsolver in an the author’s way uncanny way of expressing the world we live in, in a perspective worthy of pondering. Narrator was wonderful, only thought was Kia’s voice could have matured a bit more as years passed. Loved this presentation and the novel.

It's the worst time in the nation's history of reproductive legislation for someone like Katherine, who doesn't want a child, to learn she's pregnant. The ratification of the pro-creation Citizen Amendment has not only criminalized the birth control that would have prevented Katherine's accidental pregnancy, but abortion and most miscarriages are illegal, too.

Great book
Revisado: 01-15-19
I am puzzled, no irritated, by a recent of review of my narration. Clunky? Nope. Southern accent coming and going at random? Yup, if the listener had actually LISTENED to the book, she/he would have known that was intentional, and the reader/listener was told that this only happened when Katherine was lying. All sound the same? Nope. Each character had their own personality, pace, and tone.
Pauses?, yup, when the manuscript calls for it, you pause, or stutter, or do whatever the author wishes.
I suggest that people who choose to say these kinds of things would be better off to READ a book, rather than listen and judge harshly, with no idea of what the author intended, which I believe I captured. I know this is not a good thing to do, but haters need to be told that their actions are unwarranted, often undeserved, and unnecessarily harmful. I suggest you consider giving a HELPFUL critique, which would be so much better, and more educated, than bashing.
