Thoughtful and Thought Provoking
Revisado: 06-19-24
Excellent writing, insight into human nature, family life, thought provoking parallels, allusions, metaphor; simply good writing. I will read it again and again for enjoyment of the language and L’Engle’s skill in using it.

Historia
France, 1685. Amid the turmoil of persecutions under Louis XIV, a wealthy Huguenot merchant wonders whether to uproot his family and migrate before the storm of conflict breaks. His wife, who has never left the province let alone the kingdom, calmly insists that the winds of folly will blow over—but will they? Could the tragic events of the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacres be repeated? This prequel to The Huguenot Chronicles introduces Jeanne and Jacob Delpech before the devastating events that will change their lives and send shock waves around the world.

A Wonderful Story

I love this meticulously researched and well-written story. Monk lays the foundation for his next three volumes that describe in riveting detail this fictive family’s escape from their home to safety, no doubt the journey many of our families made during the Huguenot exodus from France.
