Historia
In September 1949 Jacqueline Bouvier arrives in postwar Paris to begin her junior year abroad. She’s twenty years old, socially poised but financially precarious, and all too aware of her mother’s expectations that she make a brilliant match. Before relenting to family pressure, she has one year to herself far away from sleepy Vassar College and the rigid social circles of New York, a year to explore and absorb the luminous beauty of the City of Light.

Not what I thought it would be…
Revisado: 04-30-25
I honestly didn’t finish it. It just wasn’t what I was expecting and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Perhaps someone else would enjoy it but for me I couldn’t get into the storyline.

Historia
When Leah and her husband moved to France, it was with the dream of becoming self-sufficient. But in truth, it’s not the ‘good life’ she’d imagined, as three hours of digging barely yield a single straggly carrot. Worse, her teenage daughter is acting up, and her husband seems to find every strange excuse under the hot French sun to disappear. So when her friend entreats her to join the new book club she’s forming, Leah decides it’s something she will do for herself.

Love the historical context
Revisado: 01-11-25
The way the book both starts and ends in the same place is amazing. Love the alternating chapters from “history” to “present day.” Great characters and unexpected moments. Great listen.

Historia
Tumors, injuries, ruptured vascular malformations—there is almost no such thing as a non-urgent brain surgery when it comes to kids. For a pediatric neurosurgeon working in the medical minefield of the brain—in which a single millimeter in every direction governs something that makes us essentially human—every day presents the challenge, and the opportunity, to give a new lease on life to a child for whom nothing is yet fully determined and all possibilities still exist.

I love her style of writing. She keeps you gripped from the first chapter and holds your attention the entire story. Love the way she started from in the mist and then wove the story in from different views.
