Historia
Bhima, the unforgettable main character of Thrity Umrigar’s beloved national best seller, The Space Between Us, returns in this triumphant sequel - a poignant and compelling novel in which the former servant struggles against the circumstances of class and misfortune to forge a new path for herself and her granddaughter in modern India. Poor and illiterate, Bhima had faithfully worked for the Dubash family, an upper-middle-class Parsi household, for more than 20 years.

The best conclusion to a wonderfully written story
Revisado: 01-30-23
I loved this book. It was intriguing and kept my interest throughout its entirety. The narration was very good. My only regret is there isn't a part 3. I would. love to know how life turned out for Bibi and Maya. I also need an explanation from Gopal...he has alot of explaining to do. 😆

Wew! Just Finished
Revisado: 07-18-22
I have such great respect and admiration for Ayaan Hirsi. I connected with her story from the beginning because her voice so eloquently delivered this beautiful story of bravery and triumph. After years of cultural suppression she , overrcame adversaries to find herself and advocate for others. I became emotional when she told stories of the abuse she endured during her childhood, the beatings and the way she was treated by the people around her. I felt awful hearing abouy her time in parliment and the tragic death of her friend. Im so proud of all she has done with her life. I'm truly in awe of this woman and her story.

Sad
Revisado: 06-09-22
I'm saddned at the cruelty Indian women endure. Life is full of hopelessness and it seems that people's humanity doesn't permeate the cultural shackles that are tightly upheld by most regardless of the desperate circumstances. How unfortunate that generations of women, men, children are treated like animals because they were born into the "wrong" family. It's just awful.

I feel compassion for the main character. My, what a terrible heartache to lose your son in such a terrible way. I don't want to spoil this book for listeners so I won't share details. However, I will say that this story was amazing and heartrenching. I highly recommend it.

Very Sad
Revisado: 11-03-19
I kept waiting for a glimmer of hope...an intrusion of good luck of some sort. But that never came for the main character Nonso who's life was ridden with tragic event after tragic event until the very end. Nonso's story it narrated by his "chi", his sort of guardian spirit. The story was eloquenty written and is heavily laden with elements of ancient Igbo religion which was very interesting. However, it was such a tragic tale. The story was too melancholic for me. I am still feeling sad for Nonso.

Historia
Abdi Nor Iftin first fell in love with America from afar. As a child, he learned English by listening to American pop and watching action films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. When US marines landed in Mogadishu to take on the warlords, Abdi cheered the arrival of these Americans, who seemed as heroic as those of the movies. Sporting American clothes and dance moves, he became known around Mogadishu as Abdi American, but when the radical Islamist group al-Shabaab rose to power in 2006, it became dangerous to celebrate Western culture.

fantastic
Revisado: 10-25-19
Except all the negativity towards Jamaicans! Why? most Jamaicans struggle the same way other immigrants do and I find it hard to believe that a Jamaican would exploit another immigrant in that way. Jamaican also have to find their way as immigrants in America. The truth is most often immigrants marry American citizens (Caucasian or Arican American) to get their legal stay.
