Everett: There are a ton of reasons why falling for my tiny, adorkable best friend is a terrible idea - starting with the body in my trunk. I have other reasons - he still mourns his late husband. I’m way older, he’s a foot shorter, my tattoo shop is a front, he’s an assistant professor at UT. Still, I can’t help but think we’d be perfect for each other if I didn’t kill people (very, very bad people) for a living.

First book by this author and narrator
Revisado: 05-01-23
I haven’t read this author before or listened to this narrator. The book was fantastic. I’m already ready to grab book 2. And via audible because the narrator was great as well. A few places I couldn’t understand Rafi’s dialogue but that was likely because I don’t have patience and have to listen at 1.2 or 1.3. Great job and I’ve already gotten the next in the series.

Only so-so
Revisado: 12-14-22
What can I say about this book?
First, the action and suspense were all done very well. It was obviously well researched and plotted out. And even though we don't get a full resolution, there is the beginning of one.
However, this book could have easily been about 1/3 shorter, and gotten the same amount of story across. There was a large excess of, while not fluff, unnecessary verbiage. In almost every new location, every single detail was laid out for the reader. The color of the sofa, along with the type of material, etc. It was too much. It was a perfect example of forgetting to "show, not tell".
It was the same with the characters. The reader received so much information on the characters that entered the scene, their height, eye color, hair color, skin color, etc that it was too much. It all washed into the background. In addition, there were SO MANY times that the new character(s) to the scene were described as beautiful, gorgeous, best looking, etc. It was complete overkill.
And not to pile on, but maybe not 600 characters in one book. I exaggerate, but only a little. There were A LOT of characters to keep track of. (One major character in one scene, I can't figure out why he was introduced at all. Maybe it will make sense in a second book?) It was impossible. Many were from what I was able to glean, a different series. As this is book 1, it should read as a book 1, and not a continuation of the other series.
The narrator, Michael Dean, was usual did a great job of keeping the characters distinct, which wasn't easy with different accents, multiple characters, and different first languages.
If you are a fan of this author's books, you will likely love this one. There's a lot going on, but the action and suspense flows well. There's just too much other stuff that I felt got in the way of telling the actual story that the author was intending to tell.

Historia
Lord Christmas Gale is a genius and a misanthrope, and, quite to his disgust, adored by all of society for his capacity to solve mysteries. When a man approaches him seeking help in locating a lost dog, Gale rebuffs him. But what begins with a missing dog ends in murder and intrigue—two of Gale’s favorite things, if it weren’t for the orphan that comes attached to them. Oh, and Benjamin Chant. The Honorable Mr. Benjamin Chant isn’t sure how he got swept up in Gale’s investigation, but there’s something intriguing about the man—a vulnerability the world doesn’t notice.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-02-22
I really loved book 1. Story was good. Cornell Collins was very good. But book 2? This one just knocked it out of the park for me! Cornell Collins was still so good. Love his accents. And his way of making Christmas Gale sound so grouchy. But the story was fantastic too. Christmas is exactly the opposite of his namesake and it makes him even more loveable. Never remembers his many sisters’ names. Then Chant comes along and messes him all up. And it’s just a lovely mess. Chant is patient and kind and even despite his previously broken heart can’t help but connect to Gale. Loved every second of it. :)

I left Vermont on the most painful day of my life and swore I’d never go back. Meadows Park–the shuttered amusement park that’s been in my family for generations–is the home of all my finest and worst memories. They all star Peter Landry–the best friend I ever had, and the only guy I’ve ever loved. But then my eccentric grandfather buried two million dollars on the property and couldn’t remember where. So I’m back, and asking Peter for help. He’s an Ivy League lawyer now. Still gorgeous, and able to gut me with a single smile.

I wanted to love this way more
Revisado: 10-28-22
I was super excited about this book. It was an original storyline, and I couldn't wait.
But the narrators threw me out of the story every single time I turned it on. I'm not sure if it was having two narrators, which I've now determined after two audiobooks that each had two narrators, I'm not a huge fan of. Or if the issue was the one narrator. I don't know which one, but one of them, whenever he would do Peter's voice, it was just...no other way to say it, grating on me. And having different voices for the same character was challenging for my brain to process. I struggled to finish the book not because I didn't like the story, I liked it a lot, and the way they found the treasure...that was kinda genius after all the work they put in. And I loved crabby old Grandpa. And the HEA.
I hate to say anything negative about narrators, because they work hard to help bring a story to life, but this audiobook was not for me. However, I think I'm going to re-grab the book from KU and read it and hopefully I will have an entirely different outlook.

Everett Larkin works for the Cold Case Squad: an elite - if understaffed and overworked - group of detectives who solve the forgotten deaths of New York City. Larkin is different from others, but his deduction skills are unmatched and his memory for minute details is unparalleled. So when a spring thunderstorm uproots a tree in Madison Square Park, unearthing a crate with human remains inside, the best Cold Case detective is assigned the job.

Another great Poe book
Revisado: 10-02-22
This author does an amazing job with her mysteries. The research, details and historical factors are fantastic. The characters are always so interesting, and this one is no different. Larkin is quite the character, hated by many but still the best cold case detective. Little cliff hanger but still a somewhat satisfying ending. Kale Williams did a great job. I always enjoy his narration.

Historia
Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

Revisado: 08-23-22
I love the narrator of this book. He’s fantastic and as usual does a fantastic job with separating his character voices and inflections. The story is very well done and I had no idea about the ending, it was a big surprise. As with many Alice Winters books there were lots of laughs, and I still cried at least twice. Hero and Maddox had a great chemistry. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

This story was so brilliant. Made me laugh out loud many times. Bonny was so much fun. Meanwhile Valentine was so clueless but somehow just kept following where Bonny and his sister led him, all while falling for Bonny. Narrator was perfect for the story. Loved this fantastic audiobook.

Emery Thompson hates Calvin Chamberlain. From the way he acts like he’s better than everyone to the way he moves through the world thinking his podcast is the cream of the crop, every little thing about the man gets to him. Even that dashing, oh-so-confident smile. He’d rather be caught dead than be around the man any longer than necessary—or admit that last part out loud.

Loved this third book on Lock and Keye. Story was good as most stories are by this author. However the narration was stilted, with pauses in awkward places and not a lot of range invoices

Historia
Porter Blake never saw himself becoming a nanny, but okay. After burnout and PTSD drove him from his job as a paramedic, he’s desperate for something new, and it turns out the nanny gig isn’t so bad. The pay is decent, the stress is manageable, the kids are great, and their mom is cool. It’s the ex-husband he’s not so sure about. The situation is awkward enough when Porter and Holden are butting heads. When they find some common ground and their mutual attraction becomes too much to ignore, things are bound to get complicated.

So much better than I expected!
Revisado: 03-03-22
I’ve actually had the ebook if this for several years but never read it. Then was flipping through audible and saw in. I still wasn’t sure but In this case I should have remembered it was LA Witt so I should have known I’d love it. The characters were so well written. And it is a personal thing with me that I like to see blended families that are happy (having had one I know it’s possible!). I enjoyed the book from beginning to end…shed a few tears, cursed at a character or two, laughed out loud. So all around great story! Michael’s performance was good. Showed lots of voice changes and intensity based on the story. 4.5 stars overall. Will definitely listen again.
