Lachlan is… a problem
Revisado: 12-20-21
Let this short review serve as a trigger warning for the more sensitive romance readers.
I am not usually a finger-wagger, but really? Our ML is a little beyond the pale. Between the sexual coercion, the molestation, humiliation, domestic violence, and ROOFIES…. I’ve had it up to here. Now I can get into a good bodice ripper, but ROOFIES? I wouldn’t have made it through this book at all if this were a series recommend to me by a friend who forewarned me the first book is rough.

Historia
I’m Jacqueline, daughter of Hasan, ruling werecat of the Americas, the werecat liaison to humanity, and the lover of Heath Everson, Alpha werewolf. But I go by Jacky Leon, and no one knows about the werewolf. Some time ago, I met a fae and his family while on the run. They helped me, and for his own reasons, the fae had given me a gift. I never went looking for him. I knew the name he gave me and I did my best not to think too hard about it, him, or his family. Life has a fun way of bringing things back, because he's the lost king of the fae and now everyone knows.

Chapter One
Revisado: 12-09-21
Something is wrong with chapter one. Either it’s an editing or recording mistake, or perhaps even something went wrong with the upload while AWS was experiencing technical difficulties, but this audiobook is missing its correct chapter one. Instead of the first chapter for Royal Pawn we hear the first chapter for Shades of Hate.
Otherwise the story was just as good as ever, a thrilling addition to the series. I count this story as a bit of a self-one-upmanship for Banet. Jacky Leon is back and this time the stakes are higher than ever before.

Historia
Jacky Leon is a member of the strongest werecat family alive; a family that commands the loyalty of every werecat that walks the face of the earth. Her family is the definition of power, and none have dared challenge that for millennia. It’s not a legacy she’s comfortable with, but it’s the one she’s been given, and Jacky is resolved to do her best with her new responsibilities. When rogue werecats begin to test Jacky’s territory, paranoia mounts as questions go unanswered and lives are potentially at stake.

Comments on the Narrator
Revisado: 11-23-21
This is like the 3rd book I’ve listened to in the series but the narrator was on one for this reading. There was one character who, as a plot point (not as simple characterization) is from Boston. Like the book goes so far as the mention his Boston accent SEVERAL times and for some reason, our narrator kept doing a pseudo-southern accent for that character. It was bizarre and very confusing. It made it hard to follow dialogue in certain conversations. Other than that it was a good performance though.
