Historia
Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

Clever mystery
Revisado: 03-05-25
Enjoyed this clever mystery with an enjoyable trio of ladies from different backgrounds. A few places that are a little unbelievable but the story moves along well. Recommended.

Fantastic. Didn’t want it to end
Revisado: 12-20-24
This was an excellent dramatization of this classic Agatha Christie mystery. I hope Peter Dinklage does more of these as Poirot. The whole thing was beautifully paced and I didn’t want it to end.

My most favorite Heyer
Revisado: 07-13-24
A romantic mystery of absurd proportions this is probably the best Heyer tale. I laughed out loud on my walks. The audio performance was almost perfect. Highly recommended.

Good history
Revisado: 06-06-24
This podcast is excellent well balanced history. The host’s nasal voice can be annoying but the information is worth the small irritation. I listened to this a lot before going to Salem, Mass for a vacation and it helped sift through the crazy stuff some tour guides said.

Trapped in rural Steeple Bumpleigh, a man less stalwart than Bertie Wooster would probably give way at the knees, for among those present are Florence Craye, to whom Bertie had once been engaged; her new fiancé, "Stilton" Cheesewright, who sees Bertie as a snake in the grass; and that biggest blot on the landscape, Edwin the Boy Scout, who is busy doing acts of kindness out of sheer malevolence.

Starts slow but picks up
Revisado: 02-05-23
Heyer is the the queen of this genre and in the book she captures the spirit of the age with a lot
of quick dialogue that can often be difficult to follow if this is your first visit to the era. Stay with it and you will be rewarded. This is almost a reverse Cinder-fella story - unwanted backward heir that is brought into the bosom of the dysfunctional family to be whipped into shape. That’s when the fun begins. Maybe not Heyer’s best but a solid listen with a good narrator.

Historia
It's a city of a million stories, and Broadway knows them all! High rollers and low lifes, classy dames and shady dealers are in it for the laughs (and the payoff) in this collection of 16 tales from the pen of Damon Runyon. John Brown stars as your narrator in these yarns of the Great White Way, along with Paul Dubov as homicide detective Johnny Brannigan (and a good many other characters). Join radio favorites Jack Webb, Ed Begley, Jeff Chandler, Alan Reed, Sheldon Leonard, and more for unusual bets, uncommonly good luck, and an unearthly meal at Mindy's.

These classic radio stories by Damon Runyan are excellent. The last two are by a different theater that doesn’t have the same clarity the others have but still entertaining.

A beautiful tribute to the English Language
Revisado: 06-04-17
This book should not only be read for the excellent and compelling story but also listened to for the beautiful sounds of the words painting pictures across time and space. This book has gone to the top of my favorites list snuggling in between "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "True Grit" as favorite stories of girls who are loved and cared for by good, father figure men, but also who must rise above the difficult circumstances of their lives. Highly Recommended.

A long slow build up
Revisado: 11-28-16
This isn't maybe the wittiest of Heyer's books but it has an intriguing story line with a bit of mystery, some side romances, some quirky characters and a long build into romance for the main characters who are likeable and have depth. It is worth the effort to get to the end.
