Historia
My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and I’m pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...I’m just not very good at the application. Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three.

Still great even on my third (edit 4th) pass. Nate is one of my favorite fictional characters. He has it all. He is a billionaire, gets all the girls, has the most powerful magic, is the king slayer, meaning even the gods have to step carefully when speaking to master Temple.

Tess Strebel can’t recognize her own face. She can’t recognize her home. Her bedroom is unfamiliar. And she can’t remember the handsome stranger lying next to her in bed. A stranger who claims he’s her husband. Tess reads a letter in her own handwriting, composed during a rare lucid day, explaining her life as it now exists: she was in a terrible car accident one year ago. Every morning, she wakes up unable to remember most of the last decade. Including her own wedding.

Like 50 First Dates meets Gone Girl with a splash of Behind Closed Doors. Really great story. Leaves you guessing again and again and again. I had a half dozen notes I’d taken. Along with my evolving theories and guesses about what I thought might be going on. I hit a few things but Frieda is a master at pulling the rug out on you. Her solution was brilliant and I wasn’t even close to the main questions. Not many authors can get one past me but Frieda gets me almost every time. Loved it.

Definitely keeps drawing you in. It’s got that he said, she said style that she does so well. Technically it’s usually she said, she said. She is one of the best at that. I felt like she stretched the rules a little when describing a situation as one character then the same event from a different perspective revealing that she left some big things out. Not a fan of that. If you are going to tell a tale from one perspective at least tell it honestly. That’s more of a pet peeve than a genuine complaint. I really enjoyed the ride and it kept me guessing all the way through.

It’s good. Holds your attention.
Revisado: 11-10-24
This was the traditional murder mystery with one extra bonus of the ghost of the victim floating around which makes it interesting. It’s a bold move to put a ghost in your murder mystery. The reason I gave it 4 stars on story is the intense man hate. I don’t think she had any male role models growing up and the best man in this story is a horrible monster and then admits it later. The rest are all in the secret “man club” working together to keep women down. Completely ridiculous but that wasn’t enough to get more than the occasional eye roll. The rest of the story was really good

Historia
Michael Crichton, creator of Jurassic Park, ER, Twister, and Westworld, had a passion project he’d been pursuing for years, ahead of his untimely passing in 2008. Knowing how special it was, his wife, Sherri Crichton, held back his notes and the partial manuscript until she found the right author to complete it: James Patterson, the world’s most popular storyteller.

Started really strong.
Revisado: 10-22-24
I got a sample played for me when another book finished up, a new feature I really like. Early on the excitement level is really great and the story moves right along. About 3/4 of the way through they added several new characters and it loses momentum and seems to struggle to progress. It did finally get there though and I enjoyed it overall. As far as the narration. I can’t understand why there are so many negative comments and reviews about Scott. He is one of the best in the business and this is exactly what I expect from him. Fantastic. So I had no issues with the narration at all and am a little confused by how many didn’t like that aspect. Scott Brick is Amazing as always and never disappoints.

A really crazy adventure
Revisado: 10-03-24
I like how we got to ride along with the first human to colonize Mars. At least for a little bit. I loved the ghetto cruiser space ship that got him off world. Will was a good narrator but having listen to all of Andy Weirs other books his tone and inflection felt a little off for this story. I still enjoyed it and think he did a good job. It was a little data heavy. The parts where they are communicating by letter got a little rough. When you read something you can put these things together more quickly. It’s like having a list in a book that you can look at and take in the information quickly but when someone has to read the list aloud it gets a bit tedious. It did convey the sense of frustration you would get having to do something like that so I gave it a pass.

Good story
Revisado: 10-02-24
Still have a little ways to go but this woman rubs me wrong. She kept feeding the beast. Like I know I shouldn’t have contacted my stalker or I know I shouldn’t have accepted an invitation from my stalker but I wanted to see him. Hmm that’s like putting your head in an alligators mouth and then getting mad when it bites you. She feels like a professional victim. She said she talked to these made up people on the phone which has me really confused. I’ll edit when finished but I wanted to make note of how I was feeling so far about the story. It’s a good story but she seems to be instigating it every step of the way. No that doesn’t make it ok to commit crimes against people. She mentioned several times that she spoke to Sharon on the phone. But Sharon isn’t real. She says she kept her stalker on her friends list. Who does that? Still liked the story and she did a good job telling it so far. She just seems like the person in the scary movie that goes to investigate the noise without turning the lights on. Ok EDIT SOME SPOILERS: I am finishing it up now and I may have been a bit harsh. I expected it was all to be one person but I didn’t expect it to be him. So he was clearly pulling the strings on both ends so probably encouraging her to contact this stalker and was feeding the problem from both sides. Knowing how it worked out. I still believe that she should have cut off all contact when it got uncomfortable for her. But curiosity is not a crime. She could’ve stopped it much earlier I can see how she was manipulated into continuing this thing.

Love this universe. So interesting. Such dichotomy. We have the good (who’s is more bad) the bad (which is mostly good) and the in between. Nexus who is bouncing from dimension to dimension. Dragons, meta-suits, super powers on par with the unbeatable. So good. On to the next one. Definitely worth a credit if you’re into super powers and sci fi.

At first it looks like an accident, but when the body of 18-year-old Daniel Gingerich is found inside - burned alive - Kate suspects murder. His victims were mainly Amish women, too afraid to come forward, and he's been getting away with it for far too long. Now someone has stopped him, but who?

Linda is so good at keeping you guessing right up until you get clobbered by truth. She did it again. Every time Kate is in trouble it feels like I’m right there in trouble with her. The performance as always is next level on the narration. Great work all around. Well worth a credit. Can’t wait for the next one.
