Historia
In this taut, chilling audiobook, Lester Ballard - a violent, dispossessed man falsely accused of rape - haunts the hill country of East Tennessee when he is released from jail. While telling his story, Cormac McCarthy depicts the most sordid aspects of life with dignity, humor, and characteristic lyrical brilliance.

The Dark and horrific made real
Revisado: 02-05-24
This is not pleasant material but it is a genuinely written, creative decent into the sad, dark life of an isolated and twisted mind.

Great listen! Well performed with all the voices distinct. I find all the sung poems to be a bit tedious but that is Tolkien style and you can skip them if you wish.

A great fitness overview.
Revisado: 10-12-23
Straight forward science based information on how to combine nutrition and exercise to change your body into something that you feel and look good in.
This approach does work as I have been using the basic tenets of this program for years and I am in better shape at 55 thank I was in my 30s and 40s. This course confirmed the things I already new and I learned a lot of new things as well.

Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

Apocalypse made real
Revisado: 10-06-23
The story is simple enough. A bleak apocalyptic, lifeless landscape, a boy and his father just trying to survive and get to the coast. Terse dialogue and bleak, yet shocking description. The two meander their way down the road in a constant struggle to stay alive.

Historia
In the national best seller Living with the Devil, Batchelor traces the trajectory from the words of the Buddha and Christ, through the writings of Shantideva, Milton, and Pascal, to the poetry of Baudelaire, the fiction of Kafka, and the findings of modern physics and evolutionary biology to examine who we really are and to rest in the uncertainty that we may never know. Like his previous best seller, Living with the Devil is an introduction to Buddhism that encourages listeners to nourish their "buddha nature" and make peace with the devils that haunt human life.

A different angle on Buddhism
Revisado: 05-06-21
This is a dense read full of insight and unique perspectives of Buddhism and the history of the Buddha which is far different than the typical story of the Buddha.
The book threads the interrelatedness of Buddhism to other religions and the concept of the devil and also reflects on how Buddhism relates to science, evolution, psychology, modern world issues and the many personas and mind states that characterize each of us as individuals. The book also critiques some of the corrupt forces that have molded Buddhism throughout its history and away from the original intent of the Buddha.
For me, it would be listening to again to fortify many of the concepts. There is a lot to this book.

The beauty of the Hof method is it’s simplicity. I’ve started the breathing exercises a week ago and already notice increased energy and well being !

A long and preachy read for a few gems of wisdom
Revisado: 04-17-20
I wish I liked this book more. It was a lot of words and most of them were unnecessary and the story became a repetitive bore. I really like and find value in Toltec wisdom and If this were a 3 hour book instead of a 14 hr book I'd give it a thumbs up. I much prefer the Carlos Castaneda series even with all the criticism and controversy around those books. The stories are much more interesting and the lessons more profound and rewarding than what I found in this book. I do like that Ruiz makes Toltec wisdom accessible and potentially usable to regular people but I didn't care for how he kept coming back to the same general points without offering much in way of specific solutions to the burden of knowledge, language and the untrue, illusionary world we all live in everyday.

Then, now and what is to come
Revisado: 09-23-18
An accurate yet unique angle on human history and its future based on novel views of humanity’s present and past.
An excellent primer for where we were, where we are and where we are likely headed. Obviously genius and yet surprisingly readable, this book can change how you think about yourself and humanity.

If you don’t think this story is for you, you could be wrong - I was.
Revisado: 09-20-18
This kind of book I would generally think is not for me. I’m not a techie, not a gamer, not a sci-fi aficionado. I did, however, grow up in the 80s. The author somehow, resurrects everything you never wanted to remember about the 80s in a way that drew me back to my childhood and coming of age years with a light hearted, yearning, nostalgia. So much culture, that I never considered culture, presented in a ‘tour de force’ action, mystery. Woven with unbelievable creativity and complexity this story delivers excitement, nostalgia for your past and young friendships, love, suspense and plain out fun. A good time listen through and through !
